wakey Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 No proper footie til Friday, so for the sake of summat to do thought I'd dive into some of our longest runs against other teams. Starting with the good stuff - our longest winning runs including both home and away, all competitions. Our record is 8 wins on the bounce. We've done that against 3 different teams. There's 2 further teams we've won 7 on the bounce, and a further 3 we've won 6 consecutive games. So without cheating, can anyone guess the 8 teams we've had our best winning runs against. Unlimited imaginary prizes available for best guesses. Quote

Our longest winning run against Charlton is 5 matches, albeit we've done it on four separate occasions (Aug 65 - Nov 67, Jan 73 - Nov 76, Jan 04 - Apr 06, and Sep 21 to Oct 23). If we hadn't been shit in the recent home game we'd have stretched the current run to 6. Quote

We won 7 on the spin v Shrewsbury between 1990 and 2017 and won our first 8 v Port Vale between 1900 and 1933. We also won 7 on the bounce against them between 97 and 2017. Well done Bertie, you win two completely imaginary prizes of your choice. Quote

I did think we had a good record against West Ham but was thinking earlier in the PL and could remember the odd draw and defeat This run will have been when Davies bullied and bummed Upson each and every time we played Quote

Tricky at Cardiff play off final was also a fine distance goal. Quote

wakey Posted March 23, 2024 Author Posted March 23, 2024 We've got 4 of them so far, so to recap ... Bertie got Port Vale and Shrewsbury FrancisF got West Ham jmjhb got Blackpool. Four left to get. I think there's one nobody gets without cheating, so I'll give a couple of clues. 1. This is a 'current' run in that we've won our last 6 against them BUT the last one was in 1911. 2. The only way we'd play them is if they had a good run in the FA cup. 3. All our previous meetings were in the league. 4. They spent one season in the top flight - but we weren't in it that year.
