Working abroad

I’ve wanted to do this for years- since college, however life didn’t turn out like this- kids, mortgage, marriage etc… I’ll soon be mortgage free, and still relatively young at 44. I’ll soon complete my UEFA C Licence, which is basic entry for holiday firms etc, but I’ll look to expand on that.

Be a couple more years, but any suggestions from anyone as to where? I’ve no language skills other saying thanks in about 7 different ways… always fancied Portugal for 6 months. Looking at lifestyles etc

Oh, I’m taking the wife and I am a ginger- so rules out pretty much everywhere by Siberia

GERMANY doesn’t count

Retire you need to have 30k in your account year 1, 50k years 2 and 3 and 50k 4 and 5 I believe. Then you get a permanent residency. Mrs E’s dad has done it. Can put you in contact with the woman who sorted it if ya want.

My sister-in-law is one of these virtual assistant type people, so she can work form anywhere. Her and her husband are currently looking at this. They can comfortably sell their place in Brighton, and buy one in Spain and bank a few hundred grand as well.......plus the lifestyle/weather is so much better

Id rather be here

No ex pats

Personally think you are mental if you buy somewhere. May as well bank the cash and rent using the interest. Stops the issues if you need to sell

You could rent out the place in Brighton and rent somewhere very decent and have enough for a couple of San Miguel's. The house is more likely to increase in value as well.

to be honest, I think that's what they're proposing to do for the first couple of years, to make sure it's what they really want to do

I've said this is what they should do, as their rental income would probably pay their monthly mortgage, and a large chunk of any rental in Spain.

Errr, the one I am in is now worth two and a half times the purchase price paid in 2012. I would be subject to a 10% tax on the profit should I decide to cash in and take the money out of the country. Unlikely at present but one never knows. If leftie cunts with water pistols start shooting me as I am dining as they are doing in Barcelona, I might change my mind. Croatia is nice at this time of year.

Do they get a taxi in Brighton for a pub 100 yards away or walk like sensible types 😂

Someone needs to have a wee read about how Air BnBs are causing a real housing issue in Barcelona - they welsome tourists but want them to stay in Hotels and to stop property developers sellign to people just letting them out to holiday makers. Its a real problem.

I get that and I also think it’s probably easier to sort out in Australia when it comes time to sell. Selling in Spain seems hard work especially if the relative passes away.

not saying don’t buy but be mindful of what happens if / when circumstances change. No quick sale in Spain

Makes sense. Lets them work out a plan.

depends where they want to end up but like I say the spainish property market seems a pain. So unless it’s somewhere for the kids long term be better to rent and invest cash.

you could make loads like @bolty58 has but the sale part in Spain seems shite unless you are on a golf course type thing

Sorry I’ve misread.

what type of property do you have ? The ones we looked at all seemed to be on the market for years hence the hesitation and looking at renting options

Sounds like Gwynedd council

They want tourism on their terms and don't want outsiders buying property

They are willing to kill tourism in the name of saving the Welsh language

Good luck to them

'Someone'  I wonder who the master of condescension means?

Some cunt shoots me with a water pistol whilst I am eating, a dinner plate and a pint glass will be heading their way in a split second.

No fucking idea what liquids are being launched at you these days. At least he or she would know it's only glass and ceramic.

Bit more complicated than that really the housing- its a massive issue - tourism shouldn't mean locals can't afford to live in house that are built.

Have a read up, the grievances are genuine and the solutions simple.

If they don’t want us to come. I’ll live. Simple solution

I don't need to read up on Gwynedd, I've been living it for several years, spent a lot of time there, I can see both sides but not met anyone who genuinely thinks the councils actions will help the area, though admittedly the ones I speak to are all folk who rely on tourism to make a living and not locals who only insist on speaking Welsh

Will take a look at Barcelona though

Call it as you will. Plenty of other places to go. No real bother to me.

It's a place I avoid anyway. Constant fucking strikes. If I can't come here in two flights via Doha, I always make sure the other stop is Madrid. Three fucking times through Barcelona, three delays with the worst being 24 hours.
