He pulled out of the last three tournaments so that he could use a little known benefit of being the reigning Masters champion. It allowed him to play the course if and when he wants. He basically played it every day for a month leading up to the Masters.

Some would call it a cheat code while others would say it innovative

Is it balls cheating, no rules a broken, I don't know why more haven't done it (unless they have, and it just never gets reported)

I don't think he can play it as often as he wants because as far as I understand it, he needs to have a full member with him to play a round

That's available to all former champions as well, but obviously not those who haven't won it

I suspect the club itself won't have been too pleased he said it publicly

Would have thought that the members would jump at the chance to play with Rory.

Bit like Ozzy Cricketers playing our pitches all season before an ashes?

He's played Augusta for the last 18 years, he knows the place like the back of his hand already.

People clutching at straws again

Apparently, all golfers who qualify have the option to practice on the course before the tournament anyway

To be fair, I don't think I've read any players complaining

He played really well and kept his emotions in check. No fist pumping after the 69ft putt. He just smiled and moved on.

he did, he had no right to win that given the elite players around him

but he was fully in control on that back 9, which is the toughest part of the course

yep, it's even easier than darts is golf

Didn't watch it but saw it on the news. I like golf but I'd never heard of him until now. Can hopefully carry it on 👏

Heading to The Open tomorrow, was down last Sunday as well for the first practice day.

Cracking set up over that way, cracking weather for a day out but feels a bit wrong for it to be this pleasant during this tournament. Course needs the weather as part of it's difficulty really.

enjoy, went the last time it was at birkdale in 2017

find the pricing terrible now tho, 120 a day to stand in a field is excessive

its 150 a day next year at st andrews

Yeah it's a dear do, especially when you factor in the cost of stuff there.

£25 Train
£15 Burger & Chips
£7 Pints
If you want any merch it's extortionate.

Big group of us going so it'll be a good day all round in the sun but definitely one I'll be nervously opening the banking app to on Sunday.

And it hasn't stopped folk buying them in numbers mate.

Thought Thursday was busy but yesterday was ridiculous.

I dont like this ballot thing for tickets and they are way overselling it for me.

Mates are on about going on Sunday. They want 140 plus 5% fee.

Think I'll be going to practice days in future, bit more relaxed.

Still really enjoyed it though 😀

Watched him do that live, commented that he might get pulled for it. Daft with all those cameras around.

Great birdie start for Tommy.
