Oldham Athletic (A) - EFL Trophy

Interesting on the post match interviews that they are bigging this game up.

An opportunity for the squad to excel again.

A winning draw on penalties - could be the most irrelevant penalty shoot-out ever 😂

What a game, missed pen, 8 goals, hit post, hit bar, missed chances for both teams.  What a great way to spend a Tuesday night and all for £10 ! home for 9-30, a bacon sarnie and a brew watching the

  • Shame about conceding a couple, but this has been a great run-out for our second string. This is easily the strongest squad we've had since Football Ventures took over, and the youth system is bearing

went to Forest in our promotion season in 00/01

we didn't take many, nowhere near a sell out, but I randomly ended up in the trent end through a county mate who's brother had an st but was in hospitality

i kept quiet throughout, but the fans around me were doing my head in, because they were shite and we were winning

things like "these are fuck all, they're not even as big as burnley, burnley brought loads more than they did"

we scored a second in the 90th minute and I couldn't help but give a stifled cheer

enough to make myself known and had to make a sharp exit

Our away followings weren't great around that time, never a problem getting a ticket and plenty of poor turnouts.  The impact of not needing to buy in advance is that if you lose a couple, its likely you won't take many to the next away, compared to now when the decision is made much earlier.

We went to Forest after 4 games without a win including 3 at home (including that 1-4 v Blackburn).

In contrast, when Burnley went there they were on the crest of a wave following promotion and had won 5 of their last 6 including 3 aways on the trot.  They lost 5-0 at Forest.

On Wiki their results show the attendances, with away fan numbers.  We had the biggest following at 'Turf, 3,782 (more than Blackburn and PNE).

Just having a look at results at that time

Strange we had 2 away games in 7

Starting with the Grimsby game that was a full house a £5 a ticket

I went to all 7

Had a uni mate who lived in London so went to his every time we played there, that Fulham game was early KO Sunday and we took fuck all, was still terraced too

They were the days for me though

Was 23, most away games were a session, and a stop over if more than an hour on the train

Did 10 that season

Always evaded me for some reason.

My away trips have dropped off a fair bit over last decade with all the athletics stuff but have done Charlton twice, back in the Prem days. Cracking day out all round, easy to get to, loads of pub opportunities 👍

This is basically the sequence when the top 2 chase disappeared that season. Still remember the 4-1 loss to Blackburn when they seemed way better than us.

Amazing work by Allardyce to keep us focused on the play offs rather than feeling sorry for ourselves.

seem to recall that Gillingham 3-3 was the second 3-3 draw that season where we were winning 3-1 at 90 minutes or at least spaffed a 3-1 lead

5 points from 6 home games

clearly our home form was guff

but recall that season replicated Alladyce's season in the championship when he took west ham up, great away record, average home record

Yeah. Every away game seemed to be a no nonsense 2 nil, goals on 30th and 60th minute with no drama. We could do with that this season

One thing I do remember about that Friday night on sky game v Blackburn was Sven was in attendance

The pitch was also a complete mess. Probably the worst it's ever been at the Reebok. Had to be relaid mid season a few weeks later

Obviously the play off final v PNE is the stuff of legend now, I'd forgotten how close we were to playing Birmingham in the final.  Fair to say the whole day out vibe/atmosphere would have been a lot different!  For a start they would have been a lot louder than PNE and would have sold any tickets they were given, and would have been uglier to play against.

PNE were losing the semi till the last minute, they equalised on 90 to take it to E/T and then won on pens; one of our most historic games could have looked a lot different.

Love stuff like that. Proper sliding doors tackle.

Whole course of history changed with a split second kick of a boot.

Or if that header against Everton had been given as a goal...

Likewise I've never done Preston

Probably done Charlton five times, so you can have one of mine swap you for a Preston, and up until last season we always won

Must have done Derby a similar amount and we've never won

following on from doing the 92, what's your most visited away ground?

I think mines birmingham or wigan

I was just about to say, Barnsley is well up there for me, I may even be double figures!

Hull, Derby and Charlton are all around the same amount

Think I've missed one trip to Blackburn when I broke my leg. That wank Sunday game under Coyle.

Either there or Bloomfield.

Burton. Depressing...

Wigan (x15)

Barnsley (x8)

Blackpool (x7)

Shrewsbury (x7)

Burton (x6)

Fleetwood (x4)

Blackburn (x4)

Can we get promoted, please?!

How many years did we spend in prem collectively?

Never missed Old Trafford, Anfield or Goodison.
