Is it just me or does the 4 days after Easter always seem to last longer than a normal week ?

I have thought it was Friday since Weds and got up sorting my day out earlier so can watch the match and the Grand National

Our kid has had another infection in his leg, quite a common occurrence, hence the big decision, but this one was mega. Two days in bed off his bonce on Oxycodon and Morphine with mega strong antibiotics served no purpose.

Ambulance job straight to a ward and on drips and stuff to isolate the infection and stop sepsis. And more importantly they really aren't ready got amputation yet. It's vital they go below the knee. He's having it drained and shit today.

My old man had get up to hospital sharpish after the day befores blood tests and leg wraps due to ongoing lymphodema flagged his kidneys were working at 20%. 

He's already got a cancer/lesion on there buy luckily they say it's not even that causing the issue! 

Total dehydration due lymphodema/leg swelling and sores. Plus about 300 tablets a day and the silly fucker barely drinks any water.

So last night I sat for four hours in SDEC unit while we waited for a bed. He was still waiting at 1am and not heard this morning.  

Oooh the drama.

 

Running a marathon will be restful after that lot!!!!

I had mine done. I went via NHS so was expecting perfect long vision but to need readers. Turns out my eyeballs are not as round as they should be so still have vari focals really for driving at night.

 

I do wonder if all the Ops they are doing on NHS are really needed. I was referred and treated within 6 weeks of the optician saying I had cataracts starting and we need  to keep an eye on it

I've known about my cataracts for 3 years but I am blessed with high ISO retinas which meant I was still passing eye tests. However glare became the issue and I was told by a friendly optician not to try so hard in the tests as the cataracts were getting quite heavy. Outcome was that the cataract I had removed was very hardened and the lad had to turn the ultrsound machine up a few times... the extra energy has inflamed the retina and I now see what I can only describe as a fried egg shadow through that eye... they tell me it will heal with the help of some steroid eye drops which I apply religiously.

Waiting list is 16 weeks in Lincolnshire, 20 miles down the road in Cambs and its 4-6 weeks. I'll still have t'other eye done but I'll make sure the bugger gives it less wellie next time

Yeah mate his amputation was due in September. Loads of Psychology stuff to do and Physio etc to get him ready properly. Then a big recovery period before a temp leg then a proper one.

But judging by the state of his leg right now it could be sooner rather than later. The cunts gonna drop off on it's own at this rate.

The NHS is worth every penny we pay, exactly for situations like this.

I got the result of my recent PET CT Scan and fortunately it was clear, the cancer has not returned, however he said as my condition (Ataxia) is worsening, i must think seriously about not going on holiday, I have 2 booked, May and September, he said I must inform the insurance company of the full diagnosis which is Paraneoplastic peripheral neuropathy associated with ant-Hu antibodies, he said they may not insure me

Nah. I know what you mean, but I'm more than happy to have an NHS that doesn't discriminate or select who they treat. Imagine one of our kids going on a daft one in a few years and taking an accidental overdose, then the NHS refuses to treat them because it was self-inflicted/drug-related. God forbid.

I’ve been to many countries that doesn’t have an NHS and I don’t know of any that wouldn’t treat people who needed it.

Free at the point of use, and that's fine.

Doesn't matter how exactly it is arranged.

One thing is for sure: the megalith of a system is so totally full of inefficiencies and non-jobs that there seems to be no way out if the current mechanism remains.

It needs a savage clear out, and savings used to help with recruitment, training and retention together with equipment.

It also requires a wider societal shift alongside it.

Aye you're probably right. Kind of confirms what fucking amazing people the staff are. No judging and everybody treated the same.

I've just no idea how they cope, especially in the war zones of A&E, SDEC etc.

Truly special people. 

Talking to a nurse on my Dad's ward (34CC easily) and she was on her 13th straight hour, same for the past 4 nights in to days. Poor lass dead on her feet but still full of banter for all the folks in there.

The economic reality is that the NHS is too fucking good. 
We're keeping old people alive much longer, which is fuelling the tax/pension problem.

On the plus side, our loved ones are around longer.

Ah you had the cataracts zapped ! I had the lenses removed and replaced. The idea is they match your prescription but on the NHS you ‘only’ get your long vision sorted. You can pay to have varifocals, but as it turns out would have been a waste of money for me as I have a lumpy eye ball !
