2) He is prob too unpopular to be welcomed anywhere else in England.

 

Whether clubs abroad will beat any offer we make is questionable so all in all we may be his best option

perhaps it could all hinge on if we qualify for Europe or not - If we did this would excite him to stay, and also generate the funds required to procure him.

The guy has said he is in football not because he loves playing the game but because of the money he can earn from it and once he has earned enough he would be prepared to walk away from it completely even if it means at a young age.

I don't read too much into him being unpopular. Savage is probabally on a par for being unpopular yet most fans say they would have him in their team because he winds up the opposition and he works hard.

This may well be the end result. He was on a loser staying in the reserves at Anfield. We gave him a temporary option. He has taken it. He realises that he has to perform to get a contract with any club, be it in England, Scotland or the continent.

You'd hope this would be the case but in reality the only thing any of them care about is the cash.

 

Money will determine where he'll play next season. Relations with the Club, manager and fans come well down the list of priorities for today's Premiership stars.

Well which 'big' clubs - i.e. ones that that finish above us - will want him? You're down to a couple already. If that.

 

And foreign sides? Again, his reputation - and I mean playing, not disciplinary - has bombed since the World Cup 3 years ago. So top sides abroad won't want him. Can lesser sides in other leagues match us salary wise? Maybe not.

In the case of Bulkyin, something was very wrong obviously as he priced himseld out of a move not just to Bolton, but to Southampton and Crystal Palace as well - For all three clubs to tell him to clear off, he must have been asking for ridiculous amounts of money

I think where we fall down is more over the duration of payment rather than the overall amounts. Our wage structure is anything but stingy, some clubs however want to get the money in quickly which is where we fail.

as far as im aware most clubs deal like this for big deals, its very rare that a player from abroad is ever totally paid for, although a transfer within england (or the UK, not sure which), the cost of the purchase can not be spread over the term of the contract and must be totally paid with the 1st 12 months i think...

 

agree with what you say though, i think when bolton say can we buy him 10k and pay ??12.50 a week for 10 years, it can be a little off-putting....

The pay in 12 months bit was correct, but i's now duration of contract - they changed it the same time as they brought the transfer window in to fall in line with eufa
