He's saying it as it is!

Problem is: If reduction of normal prices won't get supporters through the turnstiles, will the visit of Arsenal/Sheff. Utd. at normal prices?

I don't actually know they'll put prices back up to normal for either but, hey, this is Bolton Wanderers!

sam is the ONLY man to blame if you ask me,

coz he played reserves in previous seasons and some reserves this season, whatever his reasons for doing so...

fans have a right to chose if they wanna watch reserves or not.

I would have thought that all 1/4 final fa cup games will be on bbc/sky.

i'd be surprised if there was 21,000 on the the 1/4final including 3,000 arsenal fans.

If its Arsenal I expect the prices would go up, due to the Cat of the match.

I think the club should look at giving away cup tickets as part of the ST deal (two free cup matches per season but in truth just bump the price of the ST to cover it) - Previous clubs have done this, but how do they get around the smaller clubs cut in ticket pricing?

Its the fact that you have to pay out ??15 (I know its not much but add a couple of kids and a wife to that) in the middle of the month. Then when you turn up after the club say they are taking an interest to find five first team changes which did contribute to a very poor game.

I would love to go to every away game but finances stop that, I now pick and choose which ones I go to....ST's on Saturday may well have done this, and thought we are favs to go through, so save it until we draw a team we are not favs and give the team the support then!!

Everyone knew we would have a decent side out against Fulham.

I think sam has played it right in previous seasons.

It will be interesting to see the pricing policy for the 1/4 final, as the tickets will have to be put on sale before we know who we will play. I would like to see it kept the same as the Fulham match, even if it is Arsenal and use the TV money to make up the difference in what we have to pay to the away side. If it is on TV we would make more money anyway. 25,000x??20 = 1/2 million. ??25,000x??30= ??750,000. If we get 250,000 for TV money, then the club won't really have lost out but are likely to get a full house. :-&

Do both clubs not have to agree the pricing before they release it, incase the smaller club is looking for a payday?

What amused me was that Sam came out publically and said he wasn't surprised by the attendence, extra costs, etc Yet Gartside slags the stay aways because 'the club received critisism from the media'

So f??ckin what..... Since when has anybody at the club taken any notice of the media

Even Big Sam didn't expect a decent crowd, so why is the Umpa-Lumpa (PG) complaining?

Where were all the fans?

WANDERERS maintained their twin-track approach to Europe by reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday. But where were all the fans? asks Gordon Sharrock

A Reebok crowd of only 16,000 - 10,000 down on the league average - saw Kevin Davies score the only goal of the game as the Whites beat Premiership rivals Fulham.

Unbeaten in 10 league and cup games since the turn of the year, Sam Allardyce's Wanderers are now just two games away from reaching their second major final in successive seasons.

They are also seventh in the Premiership - two positions and just three points short of a guaranteed UEFA Cup place - yet the fans stayed away in droves, despite the club slashing admission prices.

Allardyce, whose association with Bolton fans stretches 35 years since he joined the club after leaving school, was not surprised by the low turnout - nor, indeed, were club officials whose decision not to open two home sections of the ground proved justified, even though best seat prices were reduced to ??20 and children were charged just ??5.

"Bolton has always been like this," he said. "It's no different than it's ever been, but we've got through, and that's all that matters.

"People will get more excited now we're in the quarter-final. They'll cheer us on and egg us on to get to the semi-final and ultimately the final."

But Fulham manager Chris Coleman questioned whether the FA Cup - a competition which has brought Wanderers their only major success - had lost its appeal.

"The size of the crowd has saddened me and surprised me," he said. "I hope it's not been forgotten what the FA Cup is all about.

"It's still a big competition and one that I know we went to do well in. We would have loved to have gone further."

The atmosphere in the Reebok was a shadow of what Wanderers have become accustomed to for Premiership games.

They would have expected a crowd of 20,000-plus, had Derby beaten Fulham in the fourth round replay, but the London club do not have a strong away following and their support left the South Stand sparsely populated. Wanderers opened the upper tier of the East Stand just before kick off, but again, the numbers were thin, leaving wide-open spaces, which were highlighted by the BBC's Match of the Day coverage.

Allardyce, who made five changes and rested a number of his Premiership regulars including El-Hadji Diouf and Ivan Campo, said he understood why fans found it difficult to budget for extra games.

"Everybody goes on about crowds being down in the FA Cup," he said.

"But every season ticket holder - and we've got 21,000 - has to pay for his ticket and that's a big reason. It's not that people don't want to watch the FA Cup. I think they do, but they can't afford it.

"If they set out their budget to buy their season tickets, when it comes round to FA Cup matches, that's an extra bit of money they might not have. And, if they want to bring their wife and family, it can be a substantial amount that they just cannot afford.

"That's why I think the crowd was as low as it was."

First and foremost - Bolton players turn out to win games. The whole point of the club. Allardyce and Gartside got that. The team won and progressed. They have no right in taking a pop at us. Neither does Sharrock. When was the last time he actually dug deep and paid for a match? Never because he's a self-confessed Munich fan.

Maybe, just maybe, some of us have other things to do away from following BWFC. Saturday 19th February was an open fixture on the calendar back in July. People had probably chosen to do something else on that day.

And Chris Coleman?! What right does he have when his own fans contributed massively to the poor crowd.

And Chris Coleman?! What right does he have when his own fans contributed massively to the poor crowd.

To be fair, he didn't particularly criticise Bolton fans. He could and should have had Fulham's poor following in mind too.

If he did elsewhere in the media fair enough...

It's a good job Bolton and fulham agreed to lower the prices otherwise we'd have been looking at 10,000 - 12,000!

At least Derby would have sold their allocation.

What pisses me off was the club deciding to close the ESU. Not because I wanted to sit up there but because it's the one stand that's viewd by the cameras. Why didn't they shut the WSU which is behind the gantry?

Something to do with the corporate support maybe??

agreed, then the media wunt even have noticed the crowd, coz half of em dont to the fookin game anyway...

gartside shouldn't criticise, because it's counter-productive - so i voted NO

but

i can see why he's frustrated

i guess he's wondering what more folk want

i would be if i were him

many of the folk now criticising him for venting his frustration think nowt about accusing him (as if its down to him anyway) of being tight...

you know the score - no ambition etc etc

Good points well made

But I can't help think he enjoyed having summat to get his name in he paper. He ain't afraid of the camera / microphone is he?

And the media attention? It was multiplied three times over when he made his statement. More ammo to the anti-Bolton brigade.

As has been said before - what exactly was he trying to achieve?

get people off their arses and down to the ground........

don't think you can doubt his intentions

just his methods, which as i say, i disagree with

I think it will have the opposite affect. Don't see why people should have their reasons for not-attending scrutinised by PG.

Was he stood on the Burnden Terrace when we played Darlington in 1985? Can someone email him and ask him that?

i think chances are, he was...

so he makes out anyway..

I'd like to say that I thought about going on Saturday, but then had 2nd thoughts.

Not for the cost, cos it was a good deal, but I thought if we get to the Final, what are my chances not being a ST holder of getting a ticket.....NIL.

I went to Oldham, could have gone to Fulham and probably every match leading to the Final, but if we get to the final, how many ST holders will be after a ticket who have not attended 1 FA Cup game........every bastard one.

I agree that ST holders should have 1st option on SF/Final tickets......but what about non ST holders who attended every round.

It's swings and roundabouts.

I'd buy an away ST every year.

IMO the FA Cup is now only important to lower division clubs who want the big payday/giant killing. The 'Magic' of this competition doesn't exist for the Premier League. It only really starts to get interesting if we get to the semis for Europe purposes or the day out in Cardiff.

This is from one of the 'Proper' supporters who went to the game on Saturday. :D/
