I know it's an odd question but watching the game in my local pub (could not make the 400 mile round trip) tonight surrounded by Spurs fans I had a "glow" of pride about me that normally does not come forward too often (usually "big" occasions and more recently UEFA games). The last time I wept a tear at a football match was when we beat Reading to get promotion. I'm man enough to admit that.

 

Anyway, it did get me thinking what makes me a Bolton fan? Is it because I was simply born in Bolton or that my whole family have been Bolton fans for generations? I think it's more then that for me. May be it's because I have seen Bolton (like you lot have) in the Prem, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Divisions, Sherpa Van, Lancashire Cup, FA Cup, League Cup finals - even UEFA cups games, and the rest.

 

I think this gives me a more sense of pride then most football (non Bolton) fans, more passion for my team, seen both ends of the game, Istanbul in the sunshine, Rochdale in the rain.

 

May be it's just the Stella talking now but I do feel blessed to be a Bolton fan.

I got took to Bolton reserve matches at Burnden when I was about 6 by my dad. He then took me to Bradford away 1996 (first ever away game, and we won 4-2 ), I then got a a season ticket at the reebok in '97. Been a Bolton fan ever since, never have supported anyone else, never will.

Born in Leigh,lived in Atherton till 9 went to St Richards Junior school where you either supported Man U or BWFC.

Saw Frankie Worthington play and BWFC were my team then on. :D/

 

Moved to Tod and watched Burnley for a season as parents wouldn't let me go to Bolton.

 

Parents weren't into football so wouldn't take me. [-(

 

Went to Bolton one day without telling my parents aged 13 when they thought I had gone to Burnley (if my kid had done this I would have gone bananas) [-X and my love affair with BWFC took off.

What made me a Bolton fan was an invatation by a friend to watch us play at Wembly against Watford in the play offs (yes.....I'm a JCL) been going since...love it!!!!!!!!

JCLer - I grew up with rugby. Realised it was shite and gradually started following Bolton. I really got into it over the past few years, culminating in me getting a ST this year. I may be a JCL, but I'm here to stay. Model myself on Biff (working on the beer belly though ).

My dad's had a season ticket since he was a lad. He got me one in the 1978 / 79 season. Thing was I couldn't stand football! Seems strange now but I used to make up all sorts of excuses why I didn't want to go. I used to take a red stool to stand on at the front of the Burden Paddock. Only did the 1 season then and you could tell my dad was gutted! 'His lad didn't like football'. I went again I think it was in 1983'ish Burnley Away, that was me hooked, thank god my Dad thought he aint gay after'all. I know what you mean Pike_Mill, I do feel blessed because we have had more highs & lows than almost any other club, we have seen and experienced almost everything a football fan can experience. Blessed and proud as fcuk. I also appriciate where we are now I think many fans from other clubs (Man U etc) dont have that appriciation of achievment thats probably why they are all w*nkers.

Me and Jay met each other years ago in south africa and I really started following them after Bolton beat liverpuddle in't fa cup circa 1993 and we had huge amounts of fun taking the piss out of all the scouse twats (f??ck me it was as bad as the scum is over here with the amount of "fans") and also Jay won loadsa money on that replay and I helped him spend it in the pub................ oh happy days =P~

I got into supporting Bolton back in 1993 when my cousin was gonna take my little brother to watch Bolton play in Anglo Italian Cup v Ancona, my brother wasn't in so I said I would go and been hooked ever since

Me owd man took me when I was four, supported any team that played against munichs till I was about 10, then I've supported bolton ever since

I remember my dad taking me to Bolton Vs Notts Forest 1994 we was losing 3-2 stan collimore bagged a few, then we came back to 4-3 and won!!! then Burnden Terrace was in going mental... remeber playing football at front of Terrace with cans and even got a piece of terrace concrete after charlton game 97!!! but i think the game that made me a supporter was when we played Burnley at Turf Moor and came back to draw 2-2 with 9 men!!! the atmousphere was brill!!!! ever since then ive followed the whites everywhere... from Ashton Gate to Eastern Europe!!!

used to support derby and bolton when i was a nipper, the 1/4 final of the league cup put me on the straight and narrow travelled on a coach full of Little hulton whites from Church inn travel, bolton took 10,000 + fans atmosphere was top notch at the baseball ground bolton came out on top and that was me hooked for life.

I was pissed at the time, there were 44 players on the pitch viewed with one eye open and the other shut

an uncle took me to a few games in the sixties, never really considered myself a fan at that time though. Started going with a mate from school in the early seventies and just got hooked, the rest as they say.....

My dad supports them so it was always assumed that I was even though when I was very little I used to hate football.

I became a Wanderers fan in the mid 80's through boozy trips to the fourth division games with my brother in law.

and hes right , the only time i can remember a bad season was phil neals last season before bruce rioch took over.and the 2 times they went down from the premiership which was expected anyway.

 

every other year they have been in contention of promotion/play offs and having good cup runs.

funny you should mention phil neil but i used to be a postman about 20 years ago and went to burnden to deliver some mail. we had been playing crap and i bumped into phil outside i told him we had been playing shite and he said come into my office. we talked for about 30mins he was telling me who was good and who was crap. it was all very frank i said to him look phil i will still be here when your long gone to which he wasnt very happy. I was right but to be fair i admired him for his honesty and frankness but not his management skills its not every day you get chance to air your views with the manager. I have supported bwfc for 36 years has i used to live about 500 yards from ground on manchester rd and used to climb under turnstiles if i had no money.
