Charlton's Penalty

Featured Replies

harsh or not?

Difficult to say as I was in North Lower

but I will watch match of the day and see

i thought a penalty was a awarded when a player was deliberatly stopped from scoring a goal...

i have NEVER seen a pen given for the keeper missing the ball and punching the player accidently, even though it happens all the time...

a penalty is for any foul in the area, punching a bloke in the head is a foul so a penalty for me, having said that keepers normally get away with stuff like that so surprised it was given

i have always thought it should be a penalty when a keeper comes out and misses the ball and takes the man but they are never given for some reason.

david james did it to borgetti and no foul was given earlier this season and

bartezz missed the ball and fouled davies agaisnt marseille which should have been a penalty.

Direct free kick

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

1. kicks or attempts to kick an opponent

2. trips or attempts to trip an opponent

3. jumps at an opponent

4. charges an opponent

5. strikes or attempts to strike an opponent

6. pushes an opponent

7. tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball

8. holds an opponent

9. spits at an opponent

10. handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

A direct free kick is taken from where the offence occurred.

Penalty kick

A penalty kick is awarded if any of the above ten offences is committed by a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of the ball, provided it is in play.

kinel, pen for spitting in the box!

After having seen it again on Football First, it was a harsh decision. Alright, he lamped him in the back of the head but he was going for the ball and it wasnt intentional. What else was he supposed to do....leave it. Rennie obviously thought the challenge wasnt bad enough to warrant a yellow card, yet awarded a penalty. Contradiction in my books. Thought he was garbage in the second half.

Jussi or Rennie?

cudicini took crouch out and got feck all against him

some give it some don't

anyone ever seen a keeper penalised for holding onto the ball for too long?

Shocking just watched it - he went for the ball - no malice at all

They're given all the time, usually when the ball is on the floor, keeper misses and takes the man.

No complaints about the penalty from me, thought we had a good shout earlier when Davies was taken out in the midriff.

I thought Rennie was trying his best to help Charlton back into the game in the second half, Davies was nearly cut in half in the box - No Pen.

Jussi -Accidental clash - PEN, He seemed to give all the 50/50 descisions to Charlton. Anyway fcuk him. 4-1. :D

I know what some are saying - but say it was given during a game when the outcome meant qualifying for Europe or not and we weren't 3-0 at the time - would you be moaning?

For me, a penalty. But like previously mentioned, how many times have you seen a clash like that and nothing gets given?

Also Davies was fouled in the box early in the 2nd half and Rennie was literally 3 yards away. How he didn't give that I will never know.

Maybe people have noticed that Renne used to favour us in the past so he is trying to prove the critics wrong

he's still a talisman ref for us. most bwfc games i've seen him ref over the years end up as wins for the whites.

I thought Rennie had a good game today. He always tries to keep the game moving. He also had a word with both Davies and Jaskelainen concerning the two penalty incidents. It was also a pleasure to watch a game where no yellow or red cards were shown or needed.

Yes the Chorley keeper was penalised for this earlier this season. Those are the only two times I have seen it though.

Yes but if you remember it was Alan Shearer that was reffing that day.

In my opinion Shearer obstructed Jaaskelainen which prevented him from kicking it sooner, Shearer then went appealing to the ref with his hands in the air, it was a farce
