Notwithstanding the Swede's bizarre choice of squad but after Rooney was sent off, Lampard was the man who should have made way for Crouch. There would then have been Joe Cole on one wing and Lennon on the other providing a service for Crouch. The immoral, greedy incompetent Swede got it wrong. He was probably more concerned about whethe he would get his leg over with the receptionist at the hotel.

Couldn't agree more. Maybe he got a dose of Syph from that girl (Can't remember the name) he was poking at the FA, because it does drive you mad leading to making some strange decisions, ask Nero (I think)

The reason for me is further back than that. His choice of squad (as I said at the time) was wrong. He should have had 5 forwards, not including the ornament that was Walcott. 4-4-2 is Englands natural game and he should have played it that way.

I am no footy genius but a midfield of Beckham Gerrard Lampard and Cole with Rooney and, at he time Owen (to be replaced by Defoe) with the freak Crouch to come on if you needed to go more direct was the way to go.

You would still have had Lennon to give an alternative.

I am just an ignorant jock though and am probably talking crap.

Totally agree with you about the Crouch / Lampard thing although I personally think he should have started with the team you suggest.

The reason we lost yesterday is because of Sven

Sven was a very very weak manager. He had his chosen 4 in midfield and despite it not working in many many matches he refused to drop any of them. It was obvious to everyone sitting at home that England and Rooney in particular need to play in a 4-4-2. It was also obvious to everyone at home that Lampard has been toilet as of late and that despite the pre-tournament jibes, Hargreaves was probably our best player out there. Yesterday we should have dropped Lampard and brought in Crouch to give Rooney some help.

So everyone could see what needed to be done apart from Sven. I have no problem with the FA paying someone 10 times as much as his predecessor but in any other line of business you would expect some sort of return for that investment. The truth is that any one of us could have taken England to the Quarter Finals ...... and probably further.

Kevin Davies and Rooney up front anyone?

Yeah, i totally agree about the crouch/lampard show.

Why on earth did he take Joe Cole off?!? he played outstanding today along with Hargreaves, Lampard played total kack but just because he is a bigger name than Joe Cole he left him on the pitch, but why didnt McLaren even try to tell sven to take Lampard off? god help us when we have McLaren as manager [-o< [-o< .

The reason we lost is because we are shit at taking penalties. The reason is because the english just don't have the killer instinct. I am sebbing myself here i know, but if children at school who were good at sport were taught how to win and have a dgree of arrogance on the pitch then we would do better. But no, they have to let the fat kid feel good about himself and it's all about participation. We don't have the bottle to win and until children are allowed to be competitive again from an early age, we will never have the bottle.

We were a little unlucky yesterday, but it was only delaying the inevitable, the french were a different class last night passing moving and terrorising the brazilians, Ribery/henry and the uncomparable Zidane are world class they are on a different planet than we are.

Individally, I dont think they are.

Collectively they are playing a totally different game and would have destroyed us
