absolute madness, but they did get 12 million off chelsea for that kid they never actually had

It's a scandal. I don't even rate him that highly to be honest.

And all those pundits that were raving about his performance against Ecuador, I thought he was shite overall.

Unfortunately probably for a long bloody time!! #-o

Who rated Roy Keane when he signed for them? He was OKAY at Notts Forest, but nobody expected him to turn into the player that the Utd team was built around for so many years.

Maybe AF sees Carrick as the midfielder he can mould into another Keane and build his team around.

And remember, Keane didn't begin life as a hatchet man.

united have season tickets available for next season

*according to some idiot on talkshite, so could be bolox

Stupid money - he's a decent player, but he isn't that good.

Probably true seeing as it's part of Southern based media machine! :D

Do we know how the ??18.6m is broken down? Either way it's a grossly inflated price and will not help a club like us at all, unless we are looking to sell not buy.

I've always been against basing players worth / price on what others are transferred for as there are so many external factors, but it does beg the question, IF Spurs or others came in for Nolan, what price would you be happy with?

keane was way better than OK at forest

fookssake, clough was building a team around a kid

he was up and down the pitch and scoring goals

A player's value is what the buying club are prepared to pay and what the selling club are prepared to accept. You can't really compare different players where different clubs are involved. A club that is strapped for cash will sell a player for less money than if they did not need to sell.

Correct.

However, inflated pricing has a knock-on effect with club's expectations.

Only oone reason why he is worth that much and it is simply because he is English. If he is worth that much we could sell Nolan for at least ??12million and if he gets called up to the England squad then we could get ??14million for him. Just because they are English.

pretty sure thats true but i think they are for the quadrant, i would love nothing more than to see the quadrants at old trafford empty week in week out after the money the greedy bastards have forked out, you have to remember that man u are making extra seats available to drag fans in from towns all round manchester and lancashire leaving less support for teams like Burnley/preston.bolton/rochadale and the likes this cannot be good for football in general.

would somebody please tell me why english players have a higher value?

i can see they don't go missing like africans, but other than that, why ffs?

Does a Manure season ticket price get into the ground to watch games or is it just a new TV and a Sky subscription? Oh and a discount voucher for a shirt (mail order obviously then they don't actually have to travel north of Watford).

i wonder if alan hansen is getting a % of the fee.

he has talked carrick up more than anyone else.

I presume it's related to 'fitting in' with the lifestyle, their family settling in etc.. Other than that I haven't a clue why!

Is it because of this story hanging over the clubs about having to play x number of home grown players?

And as Biff says, it depends on what the Club will accept and what Clubs will offer.

I would imagine the Nolan fee would not even be half of the one just paid for Carrick!

depends on the player too, carrick might not sign a contract and try to leave on a free if they wouldn't sell him, but i can't imagine nolan doing the same, any club would have to prise him away.

I would imagine Nolan, like any other footballer, could easily be prised away for say another ??5000 per week
