I don't like to rant on about my beloved team however the situation behind closed doors at BWFC seems to be farcical!

Year on year we are linked with players who snub us at the very last minute. Usually stating this is because we reduced our offers at the very last minute. Who knows if this is true? but it does seem to be a continuing trend!

to be honest the club may not be able to afford the players we need to improve the squad and if that's true, so be it. However if this is the case why would we be speaking to these players in the first place? Would the players minimum demands not be identified when speaking to the players agents prior to any meeting with the players themselves? I think it is more to do with the clubs money men putting the squeeze on players at the very last minute!

I know people laugh at players like Ben Haim being linked with Portsmouth (why would he go there?) however how long do you think we can continue showing this level of ambition before players get frustrated (just like the fans) and start considering moving on to clubs like these? Unfortunately there is very little loyalty in football and players want to win things and progress!

I hope that I am wrong and that the club are not penny pinching, chancing that we will manage a decent enough finish with the squad we have. I hope they are just holding out for some other quality signings which they have managed to keep under wraps from the press.

Only 2 weeks to go, so I suppose we will know soon enough!

It's called negotiation and when the other side won't accept your final offer, you walk away.

But you do that with the agent not with the player, whats the point of bring the player across then letting him walk away , when the player arrives you would assume that all that as been taken care off not lets try again

Well I am no expert but I suspect the player turns up to finalise the details - i.e. they are within touching distance of a deal but the final negotiation is to be conducted in the presence of the player.

It's the same in any deal, until the signatures are on paper the demands of any side can be changed.

Personally - I don't believe for one minute that we say 'yes we'll pay ??35k a week' and when they turn up say 'actually we will now only pay ??30k' we are a better run outfit that that. But none of us know the truth.

I have to agree . Im slowly loosing patience with our lack of progress and the link below has made me feel even worse. If Sam has been quoted in the link I think he sends out the wrong message. How can you say I hope Jared leaves soon. If he doesnt im sure hearing this he will be relishing the chance to play next season and with major injury doubts to numerous first teamers we are looking at a threadbear squad reduced to a sunday league squad. they will be borrowing from the oposing team to make up the numbers soon. Im worried the injuries and lack of numbers will eventually make us panic buy something we have done to no effect in the past. Please Sam just 1 rabbit out of that hat and things will start to look greener.

You are worried that we will panic buy.

And suggest we panic buy to ensure we don't find ourselves in that position.

By panic buy I mean o.perez,Martin Djetou,Andy Oakes,Jon Otsemobor the list probably goes on . Just like everybody else I want that big name striker . I know that even if we brought in that 1 big name the squad will still be too low but its about having that signing where you can pin your hope on . It helps forget all the negatives

I know where you are coming from, but Sam won't - and shouldn't - buy a player to appease the fans. He'll get cheap filler in for the squad, but panic buy would be to spend ??9m on Angel, ??6m on Samaras etc etc. The Villa and City fans might've initially loved the fact they splashed out on a striker, but then the reality is you've blown a stack of money on shite.

Newcastle are in the same boat as us, Roeder has half a dozen names he is trying to tie up and he says it will take another week or two.

The brinkmanship will go on until closer to the deadline, simple as that.

So no Davies , Pederson and he whats to get rid of the Borg ... the forward line for the first game is looking a bit thin on the ground ](*,)

Although it does look thin, look at it another way.

We wil probably start with a front 3 of Diouf, Vaz te, and Stelios.

They are 3 extremely skillful players that play their best and cause defenders problems when the ball is on the floor and we are passing the ball about. Neither of them are scared to run at a defender either.

Therefore we won't have the option of the long ball which can sometimes produce unattractive football, and so I hope we can look forward to some very attractive, quick passing football.

Thats if Stelios is fit , which leaves short and even if hes does play who the fcuk is going to be on the bench to change the forward line in case of injure duing the game

So we are saying that we have six strikers for the front three spots (Nolan can play there too, that's seven) and Smith is seventh choice

Doesn't sound too bad to me.

If Fojut and Smith are brought into the fringes of the squad this season I see no problem with that, you have to give these players a crack eventually, if Sam thinks they are worth a look that's good enough for me.

They looked alreet to me in those pre season games, and that was a year ago.

I agree with you completely that we are very short on the striker front (on the player front infact) and I can't think of another striker that we would be able to put on the bench. But my point is that with those 3 we will play a lot more attractive football. (until 1 comes to be substituted, then were screwed)

2 things though:

1. Who plays in Nolans Position if we put him upfront?

2. We may have 5 natural strikers + Smith however how many of them are good enough to score regular goals in the prem?

If Sam was happy would he keep reiterating the fact that we need a goal scorer?

Well, I'd only play Nolan there in the event of injuries, I'm just pointing out that it's not panic stations just yet. The beauty of our formation is that most people can play a couple of the positions.

Our striking department is as good as we've had the last few seasons. We've not been weakened in that area. Vaz Te is improving all the time and Diouf was quite poor last season, so we should be even stronger.

But apparently Sam and many others think the 'missing piece of the jigsaw' is this 20 goals a season man.

I don't see it that way, personally. We don't play the right tactics for one thing. Chelsea have won 2 titles with a striker who does a certain job but isn't a prolific goalscorer.

I'd like a striker (Saviola) but we'll get by without any addition in that area if need be.

Think we need a midfielder though.

Maybe, but you are not considering the variable that most other teams around us have invested in their squad and look to have improved. Especially the likes of Spurs, Newcastle, Everton and even Blackburn?

I dont doubt we will get by, and relegation is highly unlikely but where's the fun in finishing mid - lower mid table?

Mido gone

Shearer retired

Owen injured

Bellamy gone

Only Everton have improved in that area, IF Johnson is a success. They splashed on Beattie last year, he didn't set the world alight.

True, but:

Mido gone - Berbatov in (who looks very good) linked also back for Mido now

Sherer Retired - Linked with realistic bids for Martins now (Shearer was sh1t last year anyway.

Owen Injured - Maybe for a while but he will be back before the end of the season

Bellamy gone - Benny Mcarthy, Jason Roberts and Franny Jeffers (even if he is shit) all in.

I'd say Blackburn and Spurs have improved already and if Newcastle get Martins then so will they.

Posted

blackburn, spurs, charlton, pompey, newcastle, and boro will have better seasons than last time round. they have either new players or new management.

Our squad is currently weaker.

That gives us a bottom half finish in my book

I'll have to be honest here. Samaras looks a great prospect to me. 20/21 great in the air, fairly quick, got 6 or 7 goals for City in half a season. Looks a real starlet to me, and would be ideal with the way we play.

I'd have him at us for the ??6m that they paid, especially with us having failed to sign so many.

Improved? Maybe.....

Newcastle have lost Shearer and Owen this year. Blackburn sold Bellamy and got Roberts (a step down imo). Everton paid over the odds for Johnson who is really a top quality penalty taker. Spurs swapped Mido for Berbatov (Only time will tell but I think that could be a good deal for them)

We've brought in Fortune & Meite, two quality players who other teams may wish they had got hold of first. How many back 4s will feel confident facing Davies, Vaz, Diouf, Nolan and Stelios. (With Tal, Tal, Meite, Gardner, Hunt, Fortune waiting for them and Jussi in goal). Not to mention Campo looking for that killer ball.

Sometimes look from the outside in. You may be surprised.
