August 5, 200718 yr Possibly be good for nolan not to have the 'responsibility' of having the captaincy. Dunno who id have in place of him though, campo wont be starting as much i dont reckon, maybe jussi?
August 5, 200718 yr KevDavies - first name on the teamsheet! Not that it's really relevant being a friendly and all that but SKD started with it on Wednesday.
August 5, 200718 yr KevDavies - first name on the teamsheet! Would be my choice, always gives his all and he is a great representative for us. The only problem would be that he is a striker and captains are usually any position but striker. I can't think of any midfielders that could take it as for me none of them are assured a starting place.

August 5, 200718 yr Personally I have no issues with Kev Davies, but I don't see him as a regular under Sammy Lee if we play 4-4-2 this year so can't see him captain unless it's the old club captain and team captain kop out..... Not sure about Nolan's place being secure either - can see him giving it Speed, Jussi or as an outsder Meite... Edited August 5, 200718 yr by jules_darby
August 5, 200718 yr Speed already has the authority as he's now coach, so in may ways it's a waste to appoint him captain too. No point appointing a captain if you were gonna keep Nolan so I doubt it'll be him either. Jussi is a candidate with his length of service and Sammy may feel this will help to convince the Flying Finn to commit his future with the added respect and prestige of having the armband.. . . BUT Davies is favourite with me too cos his workrate and commitment in EVERY game is an excellent example to the rest and even though he's a nice guy, nobody is going to argue with him! August 5, 200718 yr Personally I have no issues with Kev Davies, but I don't see him as a regular under Sammy Lee Imagine the very extreme of disagreement that you can with this statement, then multiply it by a million or so. You're still not even close to understanding how much I disagree with it.
August 6, 200718 yr I think it would be good for nolan NOT to be captain, so then he can get to have a little rest when he is tired (or sh1te)
August 6, 200718 yr i think this was coming, nolan is not in our best eleven at the moment though i do think he is best man for the job. bit of a tricky one really.

And the rest of the quote says if we play 4-4-2... Not saying I think it's for the best, but do you think Lee will play Davies in a 4-4-2 alongside Anelka all season? I can see him switching it about with Hegusson, Diouf and Vaz Te at stages...

August 6, 200718 yr Not a chance Nolan will be stripped of the captaincy, and rightly so We've signed a load of promising but unproven players, Nolan is still one of our main men withuot a doubt Sammy Lee isn't going to risk putting Nolan on a downer, and as you've all shown in this thread, there is no obvious replacement anyway Complete balls

August 6, 200718 yr Nolan must NOT be captain, his game is at its worst when he's running around checking what everyone else is doing which effects his own game! I'd go for Faye, he wouldn't put up with any muckin about and will be a regular
August 6, 200718 yr Personally I have no issues with Kev Davies, but I don't see him as a regular under Sammy Lee if we play 4-4-2 this year I'm inclined to agree. Assuming Anelka and Diouf are still here come September, at any rate.
August 6, 200718 yr I'm inclined to agree. Assuming Anelka and Diouf are still here come September, at any rate. Er...in a 4-4-2 Kev Davies will be even more formidable. No way is Diouf going to get onto the team sheet before Davies. That's just not going to happen.

Maybe, maybe not, though there's a fair chance Lee will fancy playing all three of them. However, Dioufy has made it clear he doesn't enjoy playing wide in a 4-4-2, and if that's what the season holds for him, the Lyon rumours could easily turn out to be more than just the wild speculation we've come to expect from the tabloids.

Given the way we've strengthened. I'm not sure Diouf would be that big a loss, especially if we got a bit of money for him.
August 6, 200718 yr diouf will be a big loss against espanyol he looked like one of our best players holdin the ball well and also nolan should keep captainicity imo coz when ever he wasn't playing we lost, i think thts about rite, he must do things off the ball that we dont realise, i feel that against reading last season if he would have been on it would have only ben 1-1 rather than 1-3
