Happy Wanderer Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I've got info on a bar after liaising with an expat over in Skopje. I will post more details on the exact location (15 mins walk to the ground), beer and prices. Apparently this bar will take GBP Sterling and Euros.
YATESY Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Apparently this bar will take GBP Sterling and Euros. At what exchange rate though Happy? Can you man on the ground guarantee an exchange rate of 90 Macedonian denar to a ??
no balls Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Alex, how about those who will be in other bars than Happy is in? Could you let us know if we will need correct currency for those? Thank you kindly. Edited September 5, 2007 by no balls

Could you let us know if we will need correct currency for those?Thank you kindly. u can pay in Euro or Denari, I dunno if they accept British money. its better for u to change them because if u pay in British money: 1. they will not give u the rest back 2. they will pay u more than it costs in fact, alex seieng as you're such a nice man sort us out a bar at good prices and you'll be seen reet, too I dunno for which bar Happy is talkin about, but I can tell u that the drinks r same prize in all the bars by the river except for the Irish pub where r much bigger. there r also a few bars near the stadium but r smaller than the ones by the river and its hard to find a table. Happy Wanderer Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 From the email I received late last night. We are currently sweltering here in a heat wave that seems to have been going on for ever. We are told it is going to break tomorrow and temperatures will be dropping about 10 degrees to the mid 20s. taxi drivers here are pretty typical for most of the world and will rip you off rotten (not as bad as Prague) if you do not know the system. If anyone needs transport I can sort it, with good drivers and good cars and at a bit less than the local going price around 15 GBP for the return trip. That is per car and they can take 4 passengers per car. The Pub. We are situated in the city centre about 15 minute walk from the stadium. We serve draught Skopsko, the local beer, in 1/2 litres and British Pints at the same price roughly 1 GBP. Unlike other places we are not adding 50% or doubling the prices for the night, which is what happened everywhere else when England came last year. Everyone told us we were idots for not fleecing people! We have bottled Skopsko, Lashko (a Slovenian Beer) Dark and light, Amstel, they all come in 300ml or 500ml bottles and are around 1 GBP. We also do Hieneken in bottles but that is about 1.50GBP. Sorry no British beer although we have been trying hard for the past 15 months. There is non in Macedonia let alone Skopje. It is doubtful we will achieve it before your visit. Skopsko, no matter what the locals say is a lager, for me. It is OK and more than drinkable but a little gassy. The law requires us (as everyone else) only to take Macedonian denars, however, for this visit we will take British notes and Euros.People will loose a little on the exchange rate but not massively. The current official rate is around 92MKD per 1 GBP but we will work on 100MKD to 1 GBP. The same for Euros, where lots of places will accept and you usually get 6OMKD per Euro instead of 63 (ish). We are not a huge place but can accomodate 50-75 people ........more if we have to! We serve fast food, not from Macdonalds but fairly similar but better quality, again burgers etc are about 1.50 ish. We also sell cigarettes, local brands, which no one will have heared of but are ok, they are a massive 70 - 80 pence a packet (20) and Davidoff Light which ARE expensive 1.10pence roughly. My experience is that it is cheaper to buy them when you get here rather than duty free, especially in Europe. If you would like me too I can do a sort of information sheet for you to post on the website. There are some things and places to watch out for and some places I can recommend for food etc which, although not difficult to find, you need to be a local really. Then, for me there are big surprises like cash machines work here, well most of them, with British cards. Anything else you need let me know, I can't guarantee it but can try my best. Photos tomorrow with a location map (or the day after!)

What the fcuk are in them. 4p for a cigarette! The smokers amongst us will be knocking years off their lives at that price.
Traf Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Several of the members from here are staying v. close to the Macedonia Square.
JumboMkd Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 There's a new bar in Skopje called "Shankly`s sports bar" It's and English bar with sports atmosphere (TVs with English footie on Sky sports all the time) and if I'm not mistaken it's owned by 2 English guys from Liverpool. The bar is placed right next to the city park in the center of Skopje on some 100meters from the stadium, so IMO it is the best option for a beer before the match.
no balls Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Frankly Mr Shankly? since you ask, you are a flatulent pain in the arse
L/H White Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I can't see any fountains on that picture. We like fountains and water features. Does the square have any? There's a river to be tampered with.
Smiley Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 altogether now..... "who's that dying on the carpet, who's that dying on his floor......."
