Speed Steps Down From Coaching Role

Featured Replies

There was a story up on the BEN website 2 minutes ago that said Gary Speed has stepped down from his 1st team coaching duties. Would provide a link but they have taken the story down again; something definitely aint right

Something has gone on there, if Speedo doesn't play regularly up until January....i can see spud head swooping for him, which could call time on his playing career

Jesus! Even if people like Sammy or not, this is very worrying. I've always said give Sammy more time, but it sounds as though the fella is really getting up peoples noses. These sorts of stories of unrest are the kinds of thing you hear at Newcastle & WHU not BWFC.

The story is in the Bolton.....and i don't see what the panic is, as since Speed was made coach, our performances and motivation on the pitch have been dire

This concerns me more for the atmosphere at the club that this projects rather than the actual changes.

Speed is unproven as a coach so we don't know what we are missing with him stepping down.

A good squad player but at 38 he shouldn't be an automatic choice, which he seems to believe he should be.

I hope this change helps Sbragia as we don't want to lose him.

Time will tell as to whether we can pull ourselves out of the sh?t, I kick off after every game like Derby & Brum (games we should be winning) but am still convinced we've got the players to get us back up to mid-table (at least).

Is it Sammy's fault though? Allardyce was basically "sacked" before the Chelsea away game, with rumours abound regarding him and the backroom staff, then we lose 10 of these staff members before season starts, and then the players put in a feckin crap performance in against Newcastle......perhaps we should look at the roles of others

everything in that article points towards a very weak man at the top

Gartside has to do the decent thing for everyone concerned and get rid

christ, how can this man save us:

"I don't want anything to distract him from his game, if anything is distracting him."

The problem at bolton is that the tentacles of Allardyces reign are still strangling the club I still believe he is stirring the shit behind the scenes, until we get rid of any player or back room staff member who is leaning towards allardyce this will continue and this is uncertainty is the major factor in whether we stay up or not.

Bang on!! Is he still dipping it in Mrs Gartside?

We don't know if the Speed issue has anything to do with Allardyce, it could have, or it could just be that he cannot work with Lee under the current set-up.

The truth is we just don't know!

Whether it's Lee's fault or the players' (those that appear to be against the Manager), for me this is where Gartside earns his corn - be it to sack the Manager, bollock the players or whatever - he controls the organisation and he needs to do something about it.

I also think his lack of control is one of the problems; Allardyce basically ran all of the personnel stuff previously and we don't know of Gartside can hack it in this area (as Lee effectively doesn't have all the reponsibilities Allardyce had) - and what about McParland, where does he fit in?

Gartside needs to come out and say exactly what's going on - I don't care whose fault it is, but there's something rotten in that club at the moment and if it drags on too long without corrective action we'll be relegated because negativity within an organisation is like a cancer - it grows and grows unless it's cut out.

Spot on, rumour has it Speed has gone to Hull (probably balls though)

fcuking grow up, or fcuk off

Its now official - see BBC Sport web-site. Strange how neither LSL or Speedo can agree who decided what although the "concentrating on playing" b*llocks is rather thin paper over the obvious cracks

This is going to blow up soon with only 2 possible outcomes

1 Sammy Lee is sacked/Resigns/Leaves by mutual consent whatever you call it

2 a number of the first team squad are transfer listed or request transfers

Personally I think it's time for the little man to go but each to their own

Aren't we forgetting something in this thread thus far:

Performances and spirit ON the pitch is improving - the Chelsea performance was IMO the best for 10 months.

All clubs have their share of disagreements behind the scenes - ours unfortunately are being played out in public, with a press who are sensationalising every issue.

Nolan and Speed, at the end of the day, are two players who do not deserve to be in the team on recent performances. The fact that they were key men in the former regime shouldn't matter.

We need to stick with Lee now and improve the current situation. BSA had a huge influence on all the staff in the club, and it was a complex structure, so it was always going to be a messy transition. Lee's inexperience hasn't helped, but there are some good signs on the pitch, and that is the important thing.

I dont understand this "We have to stick with Lee and Support him" Theory.

When I go to a game I support Bolton Wanderers, regardless of who is in the team and who is managing/coaching. If the team are winning games then it's far easier to do but I always want them to win and if possible play well. Football is a results business and at the current time we are not getting results.

Between games I criticise and praise the team/manager. The problem is that currently the team arent getting results, the manager seems to have lost the respect of a number of the playing staff and things are seriously wrong at my club. The playing staff are not doing the job on the pitch which is a reflection of the coaches and the manager and ultimately the board and the Chairman have to address the problem. We cannot replace the playing staff due to the transfer window which means that the only change will be to replace the manager

At the risk of sound the voice of doom and gloom, this is the begining of the end. Unless Gartside acts immediately and decisively and f?cks off Lee the rot will set in even deeper and god knows where it will end. We are not going to get points at any match with the level of discord currently oozing out of the team dressing room.

we didn't get any of note post december

and who is to say the new bloke won't be managed by the players

strikes me lee has given em a chance to be big lads and decided theyre nowt more than big kids

now, he's sortting them out

most reckon last saturday was the best yet - i thought everton was better til we scored - so why change when theres just as much chance the lunatics will still want to run the asylum with a new bloke

Lets just wait and see eh...

It doesnt sound good but no one knows where the truth lies! Not even them at Euxton i expect

agreed with that

personally i havent been in LSL's fanclub, in part due to his poor signings, his disregard for the things that have worked well in the past, and his stubborness in leaving campo out when he was what we really needed.

BUT,

he put his balls on the line on sunday by dropping those two, (who lets be honest have been poor all season) and starting with an unkown in guthrie, he had the balance of the team right in my view and they played well and to be honest i walked away thinking things seem to be clicking into shape

if things are being leaked out of the club, somehow they need to get to the bottom of it and flush it out one way or the other, if it means a few noses being pushed out of joint and the likes of nolan or hunt etc have to toddle off then so be it (as i bet pound to a pinch of sh*t, its probably one of them two)

maybe, just maybe sammy (who is an a established coach) does not think speed has what it takes to be a coach and the pressures are effecting his game?

To be honest i don't think any of sammy's signing have been to bad. ok J'Lloyd and McCann are not world beaters but they've not been 'bad' when they've played for us. the only new player who has been poor, is cid and he was a FSA signing.

The players that have let us down have been the 'old guard'.

whether you agree LSL is the man or has to go is irrelevent in this instance for me. The players have to be grown up and accept he picks the team, and Gartside has to show some balls and if any player is demanding he plays, or things are done "his way", he needs to bang some heads and sort them out!

players come and go, but you have to keep the core of the club a fair place. not dictated to by "the old guard".

Nolan this season has been sh*te, Speed hasn't been anywhere near his usual industrious self. Therefore nobody will disagree with LSL for dropping them. If any of them spit there dummies out because of it fcuk em!

seems to me though this is a quiet word, thats being dragged out into the media. and the media just love us anyway! so dont need any excuse to put any negative spin on things.
