But she's a Scouser so you can understand why she's opted for the better life.

Back to the title of the thread, I'd prefer AIDS to Sudan.

How dare you!

Shoot UK teacher, say protesters

Thousands of people have marched in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to call for UK teacher Gillian Gibbons to be shot.

Mrs Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, was jailed by a court on Thursday after children in her class named a teddy bear Muhammad.

She was sentenced to 15 days for insulting religion; she will then be deported.

The marchers took to the streets after Friday prayers to denounce the leniency of the sentence

I am usually in favour of scousers being shot, but I ask you.

I think the solution to this, as with most world crises, is for all footballers to be herded into pens and shot like dogs.

How dare you!

Did you see what he's called - Bearmitzvah!

Aye, I had my tongue in my cheek as most folk have a tendency to do with serious stuff. Next time Lenny Henry or that Coldplay bloke bob over to Sudan to save them AGAIN, they want to explain that concept!

I wonder what the Sudanese word for sardonic is.

Her husband is absolutely gutted.

Spot on P. You hear these do gooder types being interviewed after some kidnappping or such like and they say things like 'I wish them no malice' and such like. I tell thee, if some barbarians had me holed up in a cell for no good reason for weeks and threaten me with all sorts, I'd bear them a bit of bloody malice.

Forgive them Father for they know not what they do. A worthy ideal, but frankly, it's just not normal to think like that.

A British teacher locked up in Sudan for allowing her class to name a teddy bear Mohammed has been freed and handed over to British embassy officials.

Gillian Gibbons said she would be "sad to leave Sudan" after being granted a full presidential pardon.

In a written statement, Mrs Gibbons said she was sorry if she had caused distress and added that she had "great respect" for Islam.

"I am looking forward to seeing my family and friends, but I am very sorry that I will be unable to return to Sudan," her statement read.

See, told you so! Bloody weird them do gooder types!

Well you lot might have been conned but I certainly wasn't.

Some folk will do anything to get time off at Xmas.

Did they have a minutes silence for her yesterday at Anfield?

Willing to give the stupid bint the benefit of the doubt until she's interviewed once she is back in Blighty. If it was me and the head honcho came up to me in 2 years time and said "Oi, there's another gig in Sudan. You up for it?", he / she would get a "fook off, get some other silly fooker"

=D> Very funny Whites man.

Honestly, I've seen some guff written on this site in the name of 'common sense' but this thread (whilst being funny in parts) shows a distict lack of understanding for the problems in Sudan.

To not get involved in helping the people of Darfur with the genocide that is happening there in our postition as head of the commonwealth and permanent member of the UN security council would be renaging on our responsibilites as a major world power. Just because some nutters go barmy at a middle aged school teacher doesn't mean we ignore the much bigger problem with this country - which has little to do with religion.

Just over 30% of Sudan is non muslim, split into tribal religions and christianity in the southern half of the country. The conflict in Dafur is mainly due to tribal conflicts led by the Janjaweed (amongst many other factors, of which you have to be an expert in global politics to really understand which I am quite clearly not!) alongside the brutal Sudanese government against such milita as the SLM (and a ton of others, which I don't know) It is a complex issue and should not be ignored because of the smoke and mirrors of the school teacher issue which has allowed the president of Sudan to appear as though he is in some way a benevolent leader.

The suffering of the Sudanese people is compounded by the fact that sactions keep getting undermined by the Russian and Chinese goverments who look as though they have been supplying arms to the government. So, as with all major conflicts its more political than religious and this story, whilst highlighting once again the issues of extreme Islamists, should not be the real reason to let the innocent people of Sudan die through political corruption.

However, I do believe that moderate Islamic leaders should be doing more on the world stage, following the example of the BMC, to condem what happened to this women. If moderate muslims leave the political discourse to the extremists then there is a danger that all muslims will be persecuted by reactionaries at all levels of British society.

FFS Crawley. Are you completely incapable of simply seeing things for what they are? Extremist lunacy should be condemned for what it is. I don't care if it's some fooking stupid crank yank attacking abortion clinics or some fooking morons in Sudan demanding the death penalty for calling a teddy bear Mohammed. Looking at some of the coonts on the Sudan footage, you'd think they'd have more to worry about like where's the next meal for their kids coming from or how they can get decent medical help.
