Got a phone call at 1230am last night and had to rush a cat in to the 24hr animal hospital in Worsley. Cats not been feeling tip top lately and was in the vets last week. Anyway, waited an hour because some gold clad Pikeys were in with their "guard dog" and a young couple had a poorly puppy. Gets in and give's details to the vet then it was thermometer up bum (cat not me), a pill, an injection and a chat with the Belgium vet - ?106.00. The bill broke down as ?4 for the pill ?4 for the jab and ?98 for the consultation with Poirot, and he only told us what the vet told us last week.

 

Now I know it's out of hours but it is a 24hr animal hospital after all but feck me 106quid. Was hoping it was going to be around the ?60 mark. Anyway the thing was in a bad way, thyroid probs and water on the lungs if you must know, and is feeling a bit better now.. bastard!

Apparently Widnes has a "way" with animals - he was inspired in his youth by watching Christopher Timothy shove his hand up a cow's arse on tv. He had his first vet dream that night.

(again my mind is going back to that bloody thread on ITK) but some people love animals more than humans, and vets know people will pay silly amounts to keep Mr fluffykins and rover happy and healthy.

In fact, animals may get a better deal out of it all. At least they get put out of their misery when they're in pain. And they aren't left lying on dirty beds in over run hospital wards

Took one of my dogs (a jack russell) to the vet in Daisy Hill 3 weeks ago,, she (the dog) had cancerous lumps on 2 of her teats, (she had a litter of pups about 5 months ago and don't know whether this contributed) the vet removed the lumps, 2 teats and performed a hysterical rectumy on her, all for the princely sum of ?90, and yes, the dog has recovered very well

When an owner pays the bill, no matter how high it is, it has a placebo effect on some because they feel better for doing their bit for fluffykins.

It has the opposite efect on me. I've just got back from the vets again tonight and I'm as sick as a parrot (and I'm not going to the vets with it) because I've just parted with another ?50.

Mate once paid vet fees of ?200 to his local vet. He sent him and his cat to a specialist in Birmingham, ?1000 including overnight stay. Total ?1200.

There was a dead cat by our hotel in Sunny Beach for most of the week we were there.

Dead cat formed the majority of meals available in the hotel we stayed in for Brixton's 40th in Tenerife.

My girlfriend's family paid TWO ragging GRAND when their cat had one of its legs run over last year. They didn't have pet insurance then - they do now.

 

It's absolute madness.... except I managed to persuade them to call it 'Jay Jay' when they first bought it, so I was glad to see it pull through.
