I'd agree with you that the day trips seem to be well run: there has been lots of positive feedback from those who have used both Happy and TMG. However, I find it hard to justify to myself the cost of a daytrip, if you can get the time off to have a longer stay. A daytrip is still 2 days off work for folk like me who are in work by 5am and have to drive all day.

Plus I simply wasn't up for Stansted <-> Porto-esque f?cking about. Holidays weren't a problem. My mate booked me 3 days off while I was still in Madrid.

Neither did i. The Liverpool to Porto flight (Tuesday) was only 1p (Plus ?7 taxes) for a few days after return from Madrid. Granted its ?15 on the train to Lisbon but it only takes 2 hrs 30 mins. Direct flight back from Lisbon to Liverpool was ?90. The day trips are tiring and i note Traffs comments that with the games being on Thursday you may as well have Fri off work too.

Playing Devil's Advocate for a moment and explaining my take on why captainmed (a regular traveller) said thank god: He lives fairly close to me and it's the best part of an hour to the airport: he'd have to get up at silly o'clock, usually has his kid with him, he'd get back at 4am-ish on the friday and then have to get back home. That is one hell of a trek, so he's probably got a nice 4 day break for about the same money: he'll enjoy the experience and not feel knackered or rushed at any point of the trip. PS Rather than go back to Lisbon, just stay longer this time!
March 9, 200818 yr If work had allowed it I probably would have done the usual 2 nighter, simply because it ends up about the same cost as an in and out, so you might as well. But whether, in reality, I would see or do much more on one of them is debatable. I mean for a lot of them I've ended up getting there late on wednesday and leaving fairly early Friday after a morning doing nowt more than sleep off the ale. I'd still want to do it again for the exotics (Skopje, Istanbul etc) and the ale-fests (Munich), but I'm not sure I'm too mithered by the fact that I can't for Lisbon. Going to be knackering though as I'm aiming to be back down here more or less first thing.

You are correct sir. 4 am arrival back into the valley and having to be careful what i drink in Lisbon so i can drive back from the airport is not my idea of fun. See you in Lisbon.

Not single but im 23 with no kids or anything like that and she knew about the trips from day one so she cant really complain How much have you spent on beer, food and hotels while obtaining cheap flights covering 3-5 days? I added up the other week and it worked out to be about ?1800 spent on Skopje, Munich, Belgrade and Madrid. Another ?400-?500 for Lisbon probably so will be ?2300. I think its been worth it though even though im skint now! Good questions those, i bet there will be some interesting replies

I have also booked for all the England away games this year - Paris, Barcelona (Andorra) Croatia, Belarus (my 50th) and Berlin (Germany friendly) i have also booked on to a stag do to Krakow in June and I have to find time and money to take the wife away for a week.How much have you spent on beer, food and hotels while obtaining cheap flights covering 3-5 days?
