July 13, 200817 yr A pub in Tyldesley, nicknamed the "Skenners" in 1970. Great pub, good jukebox, casual sex.

July 13, 200817 yr Had a few of them there too! That day when Chelsea had a rampage, the windows came in. Bastuds didn't get in though. Few other tasty pre match skirmishes as well. Can remember a set to with Sheffield United where, when it was all over, no fooker could play pool because every single cue was broken and half the balls had been thrown at the sh1ts as they legged it down towards Manny Road. Happy days. Funnily enough, Millwall came in a few times on their way to Wood St. Social Club!!! I kid you not. I have a mate here who is ex Treatment and still goes on about what a great place Wood St. was! Must be fooking grim dahn Peckham way. Anyway, never a problem with the Millwall lads. Bit o banter and a good drink. Edited July 13, 200817 yr by bolty58
July 13, 200817 yr When I go for an afternoon drink with the Old Timers round town they often talk about Wood St. with fond memories. Before my time. Also The Fleece and The Griffin.
July 13, 200817 yr When I go for an afternoon drink with the Old Timers round town they often talk about Wood St. with fond memories. Before my time. Also The Fleece and The Griffin. 'Fond' is not a word I would use mate. Every wino and dreggo from the Bolton area would be in there. Floorboards missing, sh1t and spew everywhere in the bogs. Toothless Top o 'th Brow types most welcome. 'Grim' would be a better word.

July 14, 200817 yr Anyone remember the Black Swan behind Harwood precinct? not a great pub by any stretch (Greenhalls pub), i just wondered if anyone remembered it like. One from my yoof was the Cellar Vie in Mawdsley St, first bar in Bolton of it's type selling beers from all over the world, and jugs of home made Sangria that made your back legs wobble.

July 14, 200817 yr Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, Skenners is still there, different name now though. I've not been in for about 4 years but it was a f?ckin madhouse then, up there with the daftest pubs I've been in, and there have been a few. It used to do 95p any drink all day every day.

July 14, 200817 yr Clarence (first pub we could get in, plus it had snooker table in backroom - or was it pool?) Alma (lunch time on a Friday from work, I was only 16 - but all the older blokes made me drink bitter or mild) Olivers (Friday or Saturday night, 16 and thinking you were "it") Swannies (see Olivers) Ukrainian Club (on Castle Street - drinking Nuclear Brown til you were sick and dropping ?100 on the fruit machine at only my 2nd ever go on it!! - then going to Sundowners to spend it on more ale!) Crown & Flick (Thursday nights, karaoke, getting leathered and knowing full well you were going to be suffering on the Friday at work) Volly (Volunteer in Darcy Lever - it was like a nightclub from Thu-Sun, last person out (sometimes at 5am) - switch off the lights and shut the door!)

One from my yoof was the Cellar Vie in Mawdsley St, first bar in Bolton of it's type selling beers from all over the world, and jugs of home made Sangria that made your back legs wobble. Yes to both. There used to be a very tidy looking landlady in the Black Swan toward the end. I think she moved to the Crofters on Haliwell Road. Decent mini pub crawl round Harwood at one time. Crofters, No name, Seven Stars, Grey Mare, Black Swan and then later the Old School House. We used to get bottles of white wine in the Cellar Vie. Corrida, I think it was called. Vile stuff, but it did the trick. Mad Frank used to do a stint on the door sometimes which could be entertaining in a grim sort of way.
July 14, 200817 yr Staying local for the selection of The Crofters on the corner of Bradshaw Road. 1988 - 1991 when it was packed all weekend and well before the smack-heads took over.
