August 28, 200817 yr Fantastic achievement if you ask me. They came through two qualifying rounds and put out the team that eliminated Rangers. Hope they draw one of the English clubs in the group stage.

August 28, 200817 yr Love to see Rioch back at bolton, a man who believe's in playing football the correct way.
August 28, 200817 yr Love to see Rioch back at bolton, a man who believe's in playing football the correct way. Me too. With McGinlay as his number two.
August 28, 200817 yr Me too. With McGinlay as his number two. And Bill Gates as our owner, and John Terry as our captain.
August 28, 200817 yr And Bill Gates as our owner, and John Terry as our captain. If you're suggesting it's impossible, this is what Rioch had to say about managing again in the Premiership? ?I think you just have to hope and wait to see if the right club and job comes along. It is working with the right people which is most important for me now, the right environment, the right club. That for me is paramount, it?s more important than anything?

August 28, 200817 yr a man who wouldn't have put up with the shite played at the reebok in recent years ... or the egos displayed by some of players who thought they were bigger than the club last season. He was a man you would not want to cross. Always reminded me a bit of Cloughie.
August 28, 200817 yr But a man who might have got us relegated, not made Europe, not seen people like Youri, Jay Jay, N'Gotty... We have been incredibly successful this last few years, I don't think Rioch could have got us any further than we have now. If we tried to play football against some of the top teams when we were first promoted, we would have got battered each week

Bit like Bolton in 1995, before he let us down? Or Arsenal the year later when they ditched him?
August 29, 200817 yr He has given me some fantastic memories and i wish him all the best IMO he turned this club around and i would have him back anytime
August 29, 200817 yr But a man who might have got us relegated, not made Europe, not seen people like Youri, Jay Jay, N'Gotty... We have been incredibly successful this last few years, I don't think Rioch could have got us any further than we have now. If we tried to play football against some of the top teams when we were first promoted, we would have got battered each week I take your point but: A man who had us playing some great football, and took us from near obscurity to challenging for the prem, with no true star players (players mentioned above came for the money, as good as they were) Get us promotion and a team on a budget far less than allardyce ever had, and with not having any premiership cash available You cannot really say if we'd have been battered or not, this happened under todd and mcfarland, who were not as astute as rioch. And his main reason for leaving, it was due to a relative being extremely ill (lived somewhere near Arsenals training ground?) and lets face it if you got offered the Arsenal job, you'd go for it (not your point I know, but I added it anyway)
August 29, 200817 yr Bruce was the chap who started the revolution. we were going nowhere when he was appointed manager
August 29, 200817 yr Bruce was the chap who started the revolution. I'd give Phil Neal some credit for actually starting the "revolution" - Rioch moved us on another notch. Edited August 29, 200817 yr by Burndens Bogs
August 29, 200817 yr Author I'd give Phil Neal some credit for actually starting the "revolution" - Rioch moved us on another notch. Neal just got us back where he'd took us from. Relegated to the 4th under him. Never forget that. Mind you, he did sign Andy Walker. I still remember being gutted when we sacke him though - I thought that was a backward step. Then we appointed Rioch and I thought, "fair enough, bye Phil" Without Rioch, we wouldn't be where we are now.
August 29, 200817 yr Neal just got us back where he'd took us from. Relegated to the 4th under him. Never forget that. Aye,because he inherited a shite team that was doomed anyway - never forget that.
August 29, 200817 yr top top manager for us but no need to dream about him coming back we're only 2 games into this season
August 29, 200817 yr I take your point but: A man who had us playing some great football, and took us from near obscurity to challenging for the prem, with no true star players (players mentioned above came for the money, as good as they were) Get us promotion and a team on a budget far less than allardyce ever had, and with not having any premiership cash available You cannot really say if we'd have been battered or not, this happened under todd and mcfarland, who were not as astute as rioch. He was a great manager for us and gave us great memories. I just wouldn't change the last few years for wonders of 'what if' with somebody else.
August 29, 200817 yr as well as Andy Walker Phil Neal also signed Phil Brown for next to nothing in 88', McAteer for a bag of footballs & brought Stubbs through the ranks. Think we ended up with about ?8m for McAteer & Stubbs so Phil does deserve some credit for allowing Rioch to come in with a few decent players on the books & making us some cash.
August 29, 200817 yr having said that he would never have got us playing the football Rioch did for those glorious few years so like you've all said Rioch in my eyes would be welcome back at Bolton if / when we lose patience with Megson - I predict some miserable football & 17th place this season + a new manager for next
August 29, 200817 yr Is it not very difficult to judge Bruce Rioch at present? He's been involved in another European league for a few years and not been at Bolton for 13 years! Unless jonathan knows im sure that very few are aware of what hes done over that period! Over that time the game, our club and im sure Bruce has changed! He did a wonderful job for us and im sure he would be welcomed back if GM departed but dont raise the flags just yet!

August 29, 200817 yr well Norwich fans think he's a c**t Think it's only us and Boro that do hold affection for him. Oh and Aalborg fans might stand him.
August 29, 200817 yr Great manager for us in the past, but how anyone can say we'd be passing people to death on our way to midtable/top 10 finishes when he's not managed in this country for seven years is beyond me.. It'll never happen in a million years though. We're not going down so Megson will be in the job for a while yet.
Got his team in the Champions League last night.
