Dzemaili Watch

Dzemaili Inspires Toro

Torino saw off Serie C side Pro Vercelli in a friendly last night and President Urbano Cairo was delighted with the performance of Blerim Dzemaili.

The Granata saw off the 1908 and 1909 Italian champions 3-0 with goals from Dzemaili, Elvis Abbruscato and Rolando Bianchi.

Toro seem to be high on confidence after a valuable 3-0 victory over Lecce in Week 1 and Cairo is pleased with the way the side is coming together.

?I think we will see the real Toro by mid-October or even before,? he asserted.

?I'm very happy with the players that Gianni De Biasi has at his disposal and I'm pleased that we have sold 13,500 season tickets already.?

Young Swiss international midfielder Dzemaili, who arrived from Bolton on loan this summer, was the star of the show.

?I was very impressed by the performance of Dzemaili who showed that he can be a leading light,? Cairo enthused.

?He is a playmaker for this team and he had a great game even though he was in action in an Under-21 international on Tuesday.

?The young lad is hard-working, humble and has a great desire to do well. Luckily we also have Eugenio Corini to guide him and advise him.?

Torino: (First half): Sereni; Diana, Franceschini, Ogbonna, Rubin; Zanetti, Dzemaili, Saumel; Rosina, Stellone, Amoruso

(Second half): Calderoni; Colombo, Di Loreto, Ogbonna (Gorani 83), Pisano; Vailatti, Corini, Barone; Abbruscato, Bianchi

we'd lose him for nowt if we kept him

Well if he's not doing it in training or reserve matches - how is a manager meant to risk playing him in a team/system that relies on a water-tight midfield? When he played his first game against Sheff Utd in the cup - everyone on here was slagging Megson off for playing him cus he had a nightmare.....

And.......every player not pulling their weight gets slagged off here, unfortunately, you cannot judge a lad who had a serious injury, and hadn't played any competitive matches, in an FA cup tie where there were far worse performances.

And i notice McCann is playing AGAIN today, so again, he must be the worlds best trainer

who would you rather play?

Instead of McCann, and in midfield? Riga for a start

Don't know, but an unfit Riga is more likely to have a positive impact than McCann....our team today looks extremely slow. Megson tries to play on the break away from home, but without pace.......

Didn't feature in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Reggina.

Their manager must be a negative c**t who doesn't know how to handle a creative player then

Dzemaili made his Serie A debut in midweek, playing 90 minutes in Toro's 1-1 draw at Chievo.

He played again against Lazio yesterday, playing well and winning a late penalty in a 3-1 home defeat.

The scoreline flattered Lazio, for whom Mauro Zarate (on loan at Birmingham last season) had a blinder, making one and scoring two to take his tally for the season to six in five games.

Torino finished the game with nine men, with Nicola Ventola in goal.

Dzemaili admitted last week that he's still troubled by a knee problem that will eventually require surgery.

Torino 1 - 0 Palermo

Saumel 88 (T)

Stadio Olimpico

Jurgen Saumel's cracking volley gave Torino victory over Palermo after Antonio Nocerino's red card and the woodwork rattled three times.

Toro were still fuming after several refereeing errors in recent weeks that contributed to the fact they'd lost five of their last six games. Matteo Sereni, Cesare Natali, Eugenio Corini, Ignazio Abate and the suspended Matteo Rubin missed out, while Alessandro Rosina was again dropped to the bench.

The Sicilians made the trip without banned duo Mark Bresciano and Moris Carrozzieri, plus Marco Amelia, Andrea Raggi and Ciro Capuano. They hadn't won here since a 3-1 Coppa Italia result in 1978-79 and their only Serie A victory in Turin was the very first, in October 1932.

Torino got off to by far the better start and dominated the opening 15 minutes, Dzemaili drilled just wide from 30 metres, then veteran goalkeeper Alberto 'Jimmy' Fontana flew to parry a Roberto Stellone header.

Both teams hit the woodwork in the space of a few minutes. First Fabrizio Miccoli unleashed a screamer from over 20 yards that ricocheted off the underside of the bar and was turned wide by the on-rushing Edison Cavani.

Moments later it was Toro's turn, as Dzemaili combined passes with Aimo Diana down the right and clipped the post with the outside of his right foot.

Former Bolton man Dzemaili's free kick skimmed the crossbar and Toro failed to make the most of a disastrous Fontana goalline clearance that ricocheted off a Granata shirt into the path of Nicola Amoruso.

Torino gontinued to notch up the best chances, as Dzemaili sparked a counter-attack that finished with Simone Barone's rising strike from the edge of the box clipping the crossbar once more.

Dzemaili was putting in a Man of the Match performance and brought another splendid save from Fontana's fingertips with a fierce strike from distance.

Gianni De Biasi threw on Rosina for the second half and Samuel replaced the injured Paolo Zanetti.

The Granata's anger with the referee continued on 54 minutes, as another cracker of a Dzemaili effort thumped the upright and ricocheted into the path of Amoruso, but the goal was disallowed for an offside position.

Dzemaili set up a great chance that Roberto Stellone wasted by hesitating, but again Palermo again went close as Alex Calderoni got down to palm Miccoli's angled drive round the post. It was his first save of the game.

Rosina's snapshot was parried into the path of Stellone, who fired wide, as neither team could break through yet.

Calderoni was at full stretch to tip a Fabio Simplicio long-range blast off target, while Fontana was lucky to escape unscathed when he flapped at a corner to allow Ogbonna to nod wide at the back post.

Palermo's hopes of hanging on for a point were further dented eight minutes from time when Antonio Nocerino saw red for the visitors for striking Dzemaili in the face.

The drama continued right to the end, as Torino finally took advantage of the extra man to take the lead at the 88th minute. The defence failed to effectively clear a cross from the left and Saumel smacked a fierce volley from 20 metres!

TORINO KEEN ON DZEMAILI

Posted 10/11/08 13:09

Torino are hoping to sign Blerim Dzemaili on a permanent basis from Premier League outfit Bolton.

The Switzerland international moved to Italy on loan at the start of September and has impressed during his short time in Serie A.

Having failed to make the grade in England, with injuries hindering his progress, the 22-year-old is likely to welcome the prospect of taking on a new challenge.

Torino president Urbano Cairo is confident an agreement can be reached which will allow the midfielder to remain at Stadio Olimpico, providing they can generate the necessary funds.

"We are hoping to find the finances which will allow us to sign him permanently," Cairo told La Stampa.

It is believed that a fee of around 2million euros (?1.6m) would be enough to tempt the Trotters into a sale.

From F365

?1.6M would be a decent amount for somebody who clearly isn't in Megsons plans, and who I believe would be available on a free at the end of the season anyway

If you mean the legend that is Javier Zanetti, no it isn't. He's still captain of Inter.

It isn't Cristiano Zanetti, either.

It's some geezer called Paolo.

Ah thowt it were Peter 'the cat' Zanetti.

If he played like a cross between Messi, Kaka and and Ronaldo in Italy, Megson wouldn't want him back, so the fact of how he plays in training in the past is irrelevant. He's the not the limited , defensive, put in a shift type that Megson loves . Hopefully when Meggo's shown the door Big Sam might find a place for the Swiss lad. :drinks:

Have you been on the glue again?

Have you been on the glue again?

I think they do it for a reaction. Walk away, CWP!

Have you been on the glue again?

I don't understand why some people have so much against SA and what he achieved, why are some people so content to put up with a second rater in charge. As Alan Gowling said on GMR, SA and Bolton are a marriage made in heaven, and he thought most fans would have him back tomorrow.
