In the same way that 2 yellows can't be rescinded. That needs sorting imho.

Yes, but one has to ask what sort of impact this would have on sports like rugby league. It's difficult to see how it could continue in its current form without a serious revisiting of the laws of the game.

A red cannot be downgraded to a yellow.

Therefore the commission has just 2 options: rescind the red or keep it.

They decided (rightly IMO) a red was unfair, therefore they had no alternative but to rescind it.

I agree. It was a 'bad' yellow - annoying because of the sheer cynicism, but not worthy of a red.

Im not being funny but when Whitlow did virtually the same thing (if not worse) away at Cambridge in the FA Cup, he didn't get sent off and he was clearly the last man - so got to keep it consistant don't we!! haha!

Sorry to disagree with most of you but Terry grabbed the guy round his waist as he ran into a gap to attack the goal. Whether there was cover or not, anyone who's that cynical deserves a red, and if it's Terry he deserves a 5-match ban - mainly for being Terry and everything he gets away with usually. You know the Prem refs' rulebook : 'It's handball, it's a foul, it's a penalty ...... no, it's Terry, wave play on'.
