Jim Mcdonaugh - Villa Bench

When did Jim start working at the Villa? Thought I recognised the face a couple of weeks ago on Telly & there he was 2nite.

Presume he is goalkeeper coach?

Jim Mcdonagh is indeed the goal keeping coach at Villa - apparently he did the job at Coventry previously.

Trivia - Seamus once scored a goal against Burnley whilst he was playing in goal for us!

I remember him playing for Rotherham at Burnden when he put the ball dow for a goal kick and Garry Jones tapped it into the net Goal! Right in front of the Burnden wing stand.

That aside he was an excellent goal keeper off his line, one of the reasons the Greaves team cold play the offside game so well.

fair few drunken ajax around last night after a hard days drinking in sports cafe on broad st surrounded by plod. i can think of better european trips

No I have decided that it was ages before him. I seem to remember it was some sort of Div 1 as it was then referee. Keith Hackett ?

Remember it well. Armfield era. Took about 10 minutes for the Rotherham protest to subside. Linesman was reet though. It didn''t go out of play - Seamus just had a brain explosion.

Was Fussey the quickest referee ever? Remember his sprints up the field after a goal kick had been taken completely out of the blue. Worth the entertainment money alone.

I remember the Lever End willing Garry Jones on to reach the ball, but in the end it was a pretty simple tap in.

Another crazy one - eleven (no, ten I suppose) Blackburn players all on the goal line for a strange free kick, and Roger Hunt managed to get it through them all from just seven or eight yards

First thing I said to the wife:

"If that's THE Jim Mcdonagh, I once saw him score in a 3-0 win over Burnley!"

She looked at me blankly....

:yahoo: I was just a young kid back then & I remember that fella running / dancing on the pitch & hugging Jim.

Seamus was the reason I ended up being a keeper myself..

Billy O'Rourke was the Burnley goalkeeper who conceded the McDonagh goal. The result was 3-0.

Took McDonagh a few attempts to get his aim right if I recall. Didn't an earlier effort go flying over the Burnley crossbar?
