Christophe Berra

BOLTON are sizing up a transfer window bid that could take Hearts skipper Christophe Berra to the Premiership.

The Lancashire side's chief scout Colin Harvey travelled to Celtic Park on Saturday to watch the Tynecastle skipper produce an outstanding display against the SPL champions.

Bolton boss Gary Megson must now decide whether to table a bid for the young Scotland internationalist in the January transfer window or wait until the summer.

But cash-strapped Hearts would find it difficult to resist a bid of around ?3million for the left-sided centre-back who has broken into George Burley's Scotland squad this season.

Jambos manager Csaba Laszlo admitted he has spoken to Berra - and Saturday's scorer Andy Driver - about the speculation surrounding their futures and has warned both players to be sure that they can hold down a first-team place at their next destination before moving out of Edinburgh.

Laszlo will almost certainly have to ship out several players next month, with Laryea Kingston, David Obua and Bruno Aguiar also on the radar of clubs down south.

Hearts desperately need to pull in transfer cash to stave off a financial crisis that has twice seen them fail to pay their players on time this term. Despite that, Laszlo has guided them to a six-game unbeaten run including a 2-1 victory over Rangers and a 1-1 draw against Celtic on Saturday.

But the coach is in no hurry to lose any of his players at Tynecastle - particularly Berra and Driver. He said: "I have spoken with Berra and Driver.

"I think that they have to be sure about the right time to move on.

"They must be playing football at this stage in their careers.

"If they go somewhere and don't play it can be very difficult to get back to the level they are at just now."

?3m for a 23 yr old. If he's owt like he might be 'W A P'...

if he's broken into the Scotland squad,he must at least be Bolton Combination league standard.

Cant be any worse than AOB, sign him up.

You really don't like AO'B do you?

He is our worst player in our starting 11 and makes a lot of mistakes which seem to go unoticed. He should be the next player replaced if we are going to improve our starting line up.

It did annoy me seeing him up against agbonlohor at the weekend. He got caught out of position umpteen times.

That's why he always leaves before the end of meetings.

Arf arf.

Hang on a minute, I'll look back and see if he really does leave early.

add to that he was outmuscled for the first, a crime for a C.H. against a Winger, also asleep for the headed goal, exactly the same for the Anelka goal the week before, the other concern for me was our insistence in holding a very high defensive line, and more to the point why this was not spotted by Megson and changed.

No chance now its been "leaked". All other usual suspects will outbid/manouver us

Leaked to divert attention away from our real targets?

Megson conducts his business quietly and I don't believe any rumours until either:

1. Tylswhite confirms them or

2. I see the new signing with Meggo on Sky.

He does make quite alot of mistakes, but im not sure about worst player.

it's not necessarily a criticism, because somebody has to be the worst player.

Hearts centre-back Christophe Berra, a target for Rangers and Bolton, admits it is his ambition to earn loads of money in the English Premier League. (Daily Record)

sounds a decent prospect

young british physical defender and starting to get international recognition

could do worse for ?3M

Fair play to him for his honesty!

Fair play to him for his honesty!

Though you wouldn't expect his ambition to be fulfilled playing here as third choice centre back, so you might conclude:

1.) He will be motivated to get into the team and play well.

2.) As soon as a moneybags club comes knocking, he will be off, so don't expect a future legend who stays here for years.

Given he is 23 and improving and playing international football, ?3m isn't a bad price, if he is any good we should make a profit.

i don't think he will be

to be fair to megson, cohen aside, he appears to only want to bring in players better than what we have (or don't have in the case of sh?ttu)

suspect with a 23 year old defender coming in, aob will be on the bench sooner or later

same goes for targeting a midfielder and his pursuit of a right attacking player (harper etc)

davies does a good job, but a proper right sided attacking midfielder would be better

and nolan / mccann do ok, but nothing wrong with getting someone better in

sounds a decent prospect

I don't know if we could play both Berra AND Cahill at centre back, as there's no experience. I think we need somebody with a bit of experience.

I think we could do with a couple of CB's in January because i reckon Shittu is on his way. We could get an experienced defender without busting the bank i reckon. Then we would have 4 CB's competing for places which will make the squad a lot better in defence.

spot on, a Bruno Ngotty or Florent laville type player would do for me.
