Gartsides Plan

Be careful what you wish for Gartside.

If the two tier Prem allows invitations to Celtic and Rangers what is to stop them replacing teams playing in underpopulated stadiums with the likes of Leeds, Sheff Weds, Forest.

I think Phil forgets that not long ago we were in the 3rd and 4th divisions and we could only dream we would ever reach the PL.

If it wasn't for the playoffs we wouldn't have gone up in 2001. <_<

I also think Phill should be more concerned on filling the Reebok every week instead of his own FA agenda

No coincidence that our greatest period in 50 years has been under the stewardship of Mr. P Gartside Esq.

The 'antis' will put forward all sorts of justification for disliking; despising or hating him now. He was 'lucky' with his appointment of BSA. Even though he has proved 95% of us wrong (including me as I was sure he'd take us down) with his appointment of Gary Megson there are BWFC fans who will tell you that he's a c0ck and knows nowt about football.

Facts and results are the ultimate measure and on this score, he should get maximum credits. Stick around Phil. This club needs you.

Hi Bolts

I am in no way anti PG and I have rarely criticised the guy.

He has done a fantastic job for the club however I feel he has not kept his eye on the ball re-BWFC since being on the FA board.

He called me concerning the Carling Cup ticket fiasco and replied to emails I have sent him.I can't think of many if any chairman who would have done that.

My concern is for the smaller clubs in the lower league where we once were and whose fans dream of one day playing in teh Prem. The lack of normal teams going up/coming down as it is now will hinder this dream. Also the lack of money filtering down to these teams in the bottom 2 leagues won't help the English game.

As for the story it could be all tosh and even if it is will not get off the ground.

Ps Bolts the weather in Leeds is gorgeous today but won't be as good as Oz

If we are going back 50 years, it was not that long ago that we spent 30 years unbroken in the old Division 1 top league. 1935 to 1964 if I remember right. In 1935 United were a Div 2 club that went bust. Isn't history marvellous?

whats this got to with any FA agenda

its purely selfish and in his opinion good for bwfc

The 50 years I mentioned wasn't just off the top of my head. After the glory of 58 (51 years ago ;) ), we went into decline and it was pretty much all downhill from there. Great times under Armfield; Greaves; Rioch, BSA etc. but I reckon you'd struggle to name a chairman who presided over as much 'advancement' during that 51 years as Phil Gartside has.

Fruity, please note that I have a policy never to mention the weather

Spot on mate. The media love contoversial crap like this. Probably nowt in it.

It might repeat itself.

Perhaps Gary has thought 'the prem is fooked as every club outside the top 6 now focuses on survival ahead of anything else'.

so sat down and come up with a couple of ideas that he thinks may help to fix it.

He now takes these to his premier league cronies and says what do you think? with the intention they look at them and come up with some ideas of their own, thus challenging the status quo

not these guys1994_StatusQuo_big.jpg

What ever happened to the daft idea of the "39th game" had that been shelved now?

What ever happened to the daft idea of the "39th game" had that been shelved now?

It's still on the backburner.

It hasn't gone away just yet.

If changes are going to be made, I think we should just go ahead and make massive changes. The FA should force club mergers, and then we could have a league constisting of the following teams

Glasgow Giants FC (Celtic & Rangers)

The Dragons (Swansea & Cardiff)

Liverpool Lancers (Everton & Liverpool)

Bristol Pirates (Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Yeovil & Swindon)

Manchester Marauders (Man Utd & Man City)

Lancashire Storm (Bolton, Bury, Wigan, Oldham)

Sheffield Steal (Sheff Utd & Sheff Wed)

South East Smugglers (Plymouth, Exeter & Torquay)

North East Power FC (Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool & Darlington)

Midland Mavericks (Wolver, Brum, WBA, Walsall, Villa, Coventry, Leicester, Notts County, Notts Forest & Derby)

East Anglia FC (Norwich, Ipswich & Colchester)

London FC (Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Chelsea, Brentford, Watford etc)

South Coast Assassins (Bournemouth, Southampton & Portsmouth)

Emerald Isle United (Linfield, Glentoran, Derry City, Dundalk, Bohemians etc)

Yorkshire Rippers FC (Leeds, Barnsley, Huddersfield, Doncaster, Lincoln, Boston, Scunthorpe & Hull etc)

plus 1 "guest team" which is invited from say South America or Asia for a season.

It would be very easy, as there are 16 teams, everybody plays each other 3 times (once home, once away, then home advantage for the third game is decided by the overall aggrgate score of the first two games - if still a tie, then a penalty shoot out will decide home advantage)

Cups would be easy, as you would only need to win one game, and then be in the quarter finals, which could be deemed as a good cup run.

Of course, I haven't included all the current league teams, buut any not mentioned can either join in and merge with their nearest "super team" or try and find their own way in the world.

I'm sure SKY would love the concept, as it involves all parts of the country. Whilst people may not like the though of merging, after a season or two, they'll have forgotten all about their original team, and will get behind their newley adopted super club. All current league grounds could be sold to developers for housing, the money generated from this would then be able to ensure that new "super stadia" could be built. Each ground could be put in a central location (based on the teasm involved in the merger) and should have a minimum capacity of at least 150,000 people - which would easily be filled - it would probably also guarantee us a major footballing event every 10 or twelve years.

Tell me that's not a cracking idea...........

What ever happened to the daft idea of the "39th game" had that been shelved now?

They were waiting for someone to bring out a more outrageous idea, which would be universally laughed at, then trot out the 39th game as a more sensible alternative.

History has a habit of repeating itself and if there was any justice in the world the money grabbing, cheating, disrespectful of the F.A.cup, war dodging, debt ridded pile of dogshit that is Man U will get there come uppence. :yahoo:

Step up P.G.

Not wrong there Cas, its been broke a good while too.

IMO I'd let Aresnal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Munich fuck off and play in a european league.

I honestly think doing this will not devalue the Premier league.

Apart from promoted teams the "thrill" of playing the clubs is not there any more.

We can't fill the ground for them.

My feelings too, Crew. Except I have the feeling that they would want to play in the FA Cup (as and when they chose) and would offer a financial inducement to the remaining clubs to allow them to play their reserves in the Prem. Afer all United's 2nd/3rd string nearly put the 6th placed Prem club out of the FA Cup semi yesterday - and if the powers that be aren't worried about THAT then we have no hopes of sanity returning any time soon.

The logical conclusion of money-mad 'top-level professional sport', aka the USA franchise model effectively. In the UK though, less of a set of mergers and more of big clubs swallowing up their smaller neighbours.

That's a fookin' cracking ................ lunatic ........ idea. Lock that person up NOW before the big clubs read that post.

Love it CWP!

Four clubs in Greater Manchester* make up your Lancashire Storm with no mention of Burnley, Preston, Blackpool, Morecambe and Accrington!

* post your rantings in the thread on the other side about this!

they'd be in the Inbred Interceptors team which would join after a few years a'la Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC

Some news, UEFA have now indicated that they would not veto any decision for The Old Firm to join the F.A.

They probably wouldn't veto it, it would suit them, they could then make us have a combined UK team, instead of the 4 national teams we now have.
