This summer is make or break for him for me. I have supported him all the time and will do until he leaves, but like many have pointed out he is not helping himself. There is so much negativity around the club, and a split between the fans. He could quite easliy help to get rid of this negativity over the summer, admitedly with a little help from the board in terms of money.

 

Again like others have pointed out there needs to be 3 main additions to the team, these need to be 1st team players who are not just here to make up the numbers. If he went out and targeted somebody exciting, a big name and was seen to be doing everything he could to bring them in, this alone would send the right message to the fans. If he fails with the big signing then he needs to make sure that he has back up and that there are other players that he can bring in so we don't end up "going with what we've got".

 

So lets say he manages to bring in 4 or 5 players, 3 of which are a good quality and possibly 1 that might just be quite excitable, the squad looks in decent shape and a bit of positivity is back.

 

For me he could then do even more. Before the season starts he could come out publicly and say how we are aiming for at least a top 10 finish and that relagation wasn't even being considered. Say how the players are ready and he feels the squad is good enough to reach Europe again, say that as long as there are no major injury problems that cups will be taken seriously. And finally ask the fans for their full backing and tell them that they can make this a season to remember.

 

I know the signings bit is easier said than done but I do think that he is good enough with his transfers to get some quality in as long as he is backed realistically by the board. But like others have said his PR skills are not the best, he can set the tone before the season even starts and that bit is easily done.

 

If season ticket prices throw up something to entise the fans back, along with the 2 things already mentioned then I do believe that he can turn the majority of the fans (some will still hate him whatever happens) and we can have a decent and positive season next year.

Indeed. If big names are mentioned, the usual crew will be claiming it's to bump up season ticket sales.

For what it?s worth ....

When any new Wanderers manager is appointed during struggling times, I expect to see some signs of improvement within 6 months even if no new players have been signed ? better organisation, tactics to get the best out of players available, tighter defence (according to managers, the easiest task) and suchlike. After 20 months and a fair amount of money spent (compared to about half the Prem clubs outside the rich 7 or , the football is dire & clean sheets as rare as hens? teeth (despite two successive 0-0 draws). I watched yesterday?s match wondering what the players & coaches had been doing all week. Given all that, I?m worried that even signing the right players for the right positions this summer might only strengthen the squad individually but not improve the team.

We were safe and Sunderland desperate ? Well, not quite safe before yesterday. But in any case players should be motivated by their contracts, their salaries, the home fans, the club?s need for ?700K per final position and, not least, their own pride in what they do. Yesterday?s first-half was abysmal even for an unmotivated team.

Will I renew ? Undoubtedly. If I kept up my season ticket during the free-fall 80s, despite living in London, I?ll certainly do it now. Even if, as others have said, attending matches at the Reebok is all-too-often a dismal chore. Anyway it?s difficult these days to get to away matches, so I keep my football sanity by watching local non-league in between Reebok games.

The assertion earlier that non-Bolton fans can?t understand why Bolton fans get on Megson?s back is breathtaking. No fans of other clubs whom I?ve spoken to could understand why he was appointed in the first place ..... not least the fans of those clubs he previously managed/coached. Well, apart from a handful of sentimental WBA fans, and even they wouldn?t have him back now.

I support the club, and therefore I support whatever current manager and hope he can be successful. I?ve steeled myself that Megson will still be here next August ....... just don?t expect me to be enthusiastic about it. Although it could be interesting if/when City offload Hughes for a sexier manager this summer.

If anybody disagrees with me, fine; that?s your opinion and your prerogative. Frankly I don?t give a d*mn. Just don?t bother telling me to f**k off and go elsewhere ..... I was a Wanderers fan before even your dads were thought of, so just save your keyboard finger for something more exciting, eh.

PS : Even though Bury were my second team back in the late 50s, before I knew better, I couldn?t really feel sorry for them today. Their top scorer was on the bench, they missed a penalty, then they brought on said top scorer, he missed three open goals and then missed his penalty in the shoot-out. Wow !

BWFC are in a massive dilemma, Megson does the job required with the limited budget he is given, but the majority of fans would prefer to see a more attacking 4-4-2 style of football, that will require big investment and maybe a change of manager to attract the quality that is required to play such a system, the alternative is to soldier on with crowds dwindling, yesterday we had 24,000 on with 5000 mackems on yet down the road at a club I consider to be smaller than us there was a bigger crowd with pompey bringing a 1000 or less fans people are voting with there feet, something needs to happen and quick as the negativity unrest and genuine lack of interest from our fans will eventually take us down.

 

P.S.I have never spoke to as many dissilusioned bolton fans in 35 years of watching the club.

Some of the great things about being a Bolton fan at the moment include the fact that the Chairman is a Wanderers fan, the Benefactor Davies is a Wanderers fan and the manager is a working class English lad that we can relate to and is putting teams out against the odds in the Premiership up against the Corporate Big Boys.

In the modern football world of big money players with inflated egos and foreign managers with Armani suits we are one of the last few Clubs to hang on to some of the basics that we remember from the nostalgia years.

I love the fact that we are still the David against the Goliaths, backs to the wall fighting for our top flight status that we have miraculously hung on to for so long. if the Chairman, manager, players and Fans pull together we can continue defying the critics who name us as one of the relegation candidates every season. We don't have much money We don't care, Eddie Davies is one of us. We are Bolton we are Bolton Super Bolton from the North........West.... No one likes us we don't care !!!!!!

 

If we became a rich club overnight with a Corporate buy out from some Yanks or Ruskys or Arabs, we could compete on a more even footing and we would have realistic expectations of top 8 finishes, we would also lose our identity, we would have no genuine supporters in the positions at the Club that matter. That will be the time that I will be thinking of jacking it in altogether. We could one day sell our souls to the greedy financial 'devil' like Man City have done. It won't be our Club anymore with heart and passion. The game as already changed massively from the Real game that we watched on the terraces. It was inevitable with all the money swilling around.

Bolton is hanging on to the last threads of a proper Club with a proper old fashioned English Chairman that has bent over backwards for the fans in the last two seasons and a proper old fashioned English manager that gets the basics right and tries to motivate the players to compete against the big wage earners.

In years to come when BWFC becomes a foreign owned conglomerate falling in line with all the other 'sheep' in the name of business and advertising, we will look back and miss Davies, Gartside, Megson (and Allardyce) and all the rest of the working class locals that are part of what we have got now.

Head says he's kept us in the PL so job done, he's bought some decent players and has now got a young/English backbone to the squad. With a few decent players in the summer we could improve a lot next year.

 

Heart says he's a shit manager who's lucky to be managing any side in the top flight, he should be happy with his bonus for keeping us up, and shouldn't be such a crying little bitch coz the fans don't like him. And at best under him we'll only ever be in relegation battles - cup runs are out of the question too. Attendances will drop even further also, as he's as popular as Gordon Brown thorwing an axe at an infant ('cept the pro-megson mob on here).

Maybe you should consider some anger management classes as BWFC seems to be making you irrationally displeased.

 

We all whinge and moan at the match its part of being a fan.

What I'm referring to are fans who moan constantly, abuse the manager and players (I don't know if you are one or not).

All it achieves is alienating the players/Management and supporters like myself.
