I am quite disappointed that people casting protest votes felt the BNP were worthy of it. Why not one of the other minor parties whose candidates and members aren't rapists, criminals and ex or closet neo Nazis? Very dismaying. And the irony of Griffin farting on about political correctness when he stood on stage last night and said that any immigrant or non-white who contributes to society can stay - his party has changed its tune more than any other in order to present itself as electable. Elements of the British public are obviously deeply gullible.

Starving them of publicity obviously hasnt worked, just like it didn't with Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland years ago. Griffin can just about handle himself in interviews, so Newsnight and so on should be getting other boneheaded members of the party on who couldn't argue their way out of a paper bag. Opponents should expose them for what they are, which is the old National Front in suits and with fancy leaflets.

Now Russel Brand is a cunt but his documentary on the BNP was brilliant.

tis on youtube somewhere.

The BNP got 8% of a 31.7% turn out did they not which equates to about 2.5% of the population of manchester (132,000 people) voted for them.

I'm pretty sure given a 'none of the above' choice the turn out and results may have been different, the fact is Joe Public couldn't give a shiny shite about the European parliment as they've no idea what it is or what it means to their day to day lives

How the fook anybody can vote for a party that want's us to stay in Europe is beyond me, the sooner we get out of the euro zone the better, I voted UKIP for that reason, for me it is a shame that the BNP vote and UKIP vote split the anti europe vote.

The BNP got over 8,000 votes in Bolton from a 67,000 turn out. By my reckoning thats about 12%. Perhaps peoples attitudes change when they, or members of their familys cant get a job :pardon:

Torys 16,000, Labour 14,000 UKip 10,000 by the way !

Edited by Breightmet Boy

The only leaflets that I got was from the conservatives and a newspaper called Hope Not Hate which was published by the left and was an anti BNP publication. If the they had canvassed on a more pro Labour agenda, then maybe they could have beaten the BNP where it matters, through the balot box!

It is a sad day when we have the far right vote up all over Europe. 65 years on from D Day, seems like we haven't learnt a great deal.

Still in times of ecomonic crisis and unpopular government there is always a lurch from progressive politics to reactionary biogtry. This is a party that is basically a single issue party. Look at one of their 'policies' on saving local councils money for example by suspending translation of public literature into different languages such as Urdu. Scratch away the surface and oh yes, translations also cover braille, large print and recorded material, for the blind and partially sighted. It'd be laughable if people didn't vote for them. Now both their MEPs are former NF members, it is very worrying.

See the thing I don't get is that all they stand for sees to me to be the opposite of actually being British, whatever that means. But I was brought up to believe this country was faired minded and stood up to ignorance and hatred based on colour, creed or race.

The documentary is entitled "Nazi Boy". It is a very amusing eye opener. It goes to show the ignorance of the "BNP Youth". Brand shows that their leader cannot hold his own, eventually spitting his dummy out. All the while leaving the BNP in an embarrassing light. Recommended!

If that be true, then that is very worrying. I'd like to think that the people who voted BNP really do know what their policiesare, and if they agree with them, whether I do or not, at least they have made an informed decision. I fear many have not read their manifesto or even any of their literature.

Now, you see I actually agree that general council literature should only be in English (and obviously for blind, partially sighted and audio) Clearly, there are times a foreign language is required, i.e. information on learning English or leaflets aimed at non residents, but I do not understand how an immigrant can think it acceptable to live in this land without a basic grasp of the native tongue no matter which country they live in. My family did this not so long ago so why not immigrants in this century?

AFAIK there's now a sentence in a few diiferent languages (Urdu, arabic, french etc) on the back of any literature sent to an area with a large immigrant population saying if you want this translated ring 1204 33 etc but most stuff isn't translated at all

If this be true, Frank, then that sounds like common sense has prevailed quite a bit, if not completely.

just had a look round at all our consultation stuff we've sent out recently and most of it doesn't even have the sentences on em

I didnt vote because they are all as bad as each other for various reasons.

However, to those who slate the BNP, why not spend that potical energy in realising that there are genuine concerns among a significant %age of the British public and stop taking them for a set of cunts?

Pointing to the nazis and saying 'no nay never' isn't a solution. It's a cop out.

Quite simply - people are losing their jobs, the price of everything has risen dramatically and the bods in charge are lining their own pockets and doing fuck all about it. I've always thought politicians were smug lying cunts, and I assume I'm in the majority, my great-granddad lost his life fighting for our right to vote - yet there's nobody to vote for - the main parties are the same twats with different faces.

I'm not surprised some working-class voters have chosen the BNP. People can't afford houses, so they try and get a council house, but they're thrown at the bottom of a huge list (Bolton council no longer build council houses) where immigrants get priority while they wait for years & years for somewhere reasonable. I can see why people are fucked off, to be honest, you pay your taxes for umpteen years and get treated like a second class citizen. I lived in town up until recently, and after a chat with an African neighbour found out he had his rent, bills and a fucking car paid for - while all my taxes & bills shot up.

I agree that the BNP are a bunch of knuckle-dragging racists, but they're only going to get more & more popular until the Labout/Conservative twats pull their thumbs out of their arse, and sort the bastard country out. We've got councils throwing money down the drain, politicians paying their spouses/relatives out of taxpayers money & nobody is doing anything about it.

'You claimed ?xxxxx on a flat you'd already sold'

'Oh, am I okay resigning, on a full pension with perks then?'

'Of course you are, you know how we do things - take all you can & fuck the taxpayer'

apparently the number of people who voted BNP hasn't risen it's just with such a low turn out their %age has increased.

the 2 main parties and the lib dems have no policies to speak of i couldn't tell you what they stood for, the BNP/UKIP/Greens on the other hand i could.

the main parties are seen as being the same with only the different coloured rosettes on their candidates to tell them apart.

Bolton council used to be lib dem, it's now labour and fook all has changed here behind the scenes only it's now the tories moaning about labour policies, when in reality they'd do things exactly the same way

I think you need to take up a junior minister's role in Smiff's new world order!!! :good:

I'm not sure where searchlights political affiliations lie but my point was that Labour's election campaign was pretty poor which suited me as I voted conservative but it could be argued that they lost many votes to the BNP and the other minor parties.

I also think that the immigration debate has been suppressed by Labour's political correctness and the BNP has been an outlet for the frustrations of many.

Being concerned about uncontrolled immigration does not make a person racist. Raising it in conversation has left people open to criticism and accusations of racist tendancies. You only have to look back at many posts on here!

i would be suprised if 10% of the people who voted for the BNP knew what their policies were. They will have voted for them because they are either complete morons or people voting for the first time who think it is funny.

I think BNP may have picked up votes through the main three parties saying we know you don't like us because of the expenses scandal but please don't vote BNP. A sort of my enemy's enemy must be my friend.

Agreed.

It is still worrying especially when it produces 2 people who will now sit as MEP's, representing people of the UK but who only represent White Anglo Saxon People. Racial tolerance was an area I always thought we were better than most european countries at but to have two racist nazi's as MEPS rather laughs in the face of that arguement. Hopefully the low turn out and votes for BNP were just a protest

at the current financial crisis and MP's expenses* rather than any long term far right leanings & come the next elections they'll get seen for what they truly are & lose there seats.

*What a lot of people wanted to see, myself included was legal action against those MP's who placed

fraudulent claims. Ok the PM was never going to do that but they should have been forced to stand down with immediate effect and by-elections called.

No but the BNP is talking about repatriation and all the main parties have controls on immigration. There's just this brainwashing my the BNP and UKIP that for some reason say we don't.

Although have to say i've just had a 'heated debate' with some south london toss pot who claims that its just the north as its all backward and itolerrant. Southerners, sometimes the arrogance of them....!

thats bollocks but i agree with what you're saying though

Possibly - I got told that from a lad who works for the council - maybe he was telling porkies.

Bolton at home are an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) they are responsible for running and maintaining Bolton's council housing stock, and building any new ones. apparently being an Almo means more money from rents etc can be used for maintainence and improving the housing facilities and they have more power to chuck out bad tennants.

They've been in charge for 3-4 years and spent a fortune getting all the stock up to standard, the next phase of their plans is to look at building new homes be that on new estates or flattening badly designed flat/houses and building better ones

Thing is though, these controls are clearly rubbish and that's the problem which, imho, is making these people think BNP is an option.
