2009/2010

I think another season like the last 2. Dont really think we will go down, but we will have our bad runs that will shit some of us up a bit.

Squad - Looking stronger, but apart from Knight, not sure the quality in the starting x1 has improved that much.

Still a bit worried on the goals front. Davies and Taylor both had excellent seasons in 08/09, they will find it hard to improve that.

Elmander may be the key, but from what I have seen so far, he is not upto it. Can we carry on making excuses for him?

Mid table if we keep Cahil and KD avoids injury. We are definately better than all the teams promoted in the last two seasons, Pompey look doomed from the start. Could see us getting into the top ten if we can avoid injuries but the squad is still a little fragile in places.

I think we are still short of a striker to fill in if KD picks up an injury. I cant see Elmander leading the line on his own.

isnt that what he did most of last season anyway?

If we avoid injuries to key players, I'd like us to aim for a top half finish and a decent run in one of the cup competitions. Would settle for mid or lower mid as long as we get to see a progression into this 'more attractive style' which has been promised. These things take time. Looking forward to seeing Mark Davis get a full season, a continued improvement from Cahill and hopefully the imergence of a few of the younger players, Topi, Basham, Mooey. Think our new South Korean lad could prove to be a hidden gem once he gets used to the pace of the prem. I know Youtube is a shocking way to judge a player, but his touch, awareness and pace seem top notch. Anyone can crack in a few good efforts on a video highlights compliation, but you can't fake pace or ball control! Can't wait for the new season. Let's get behind 'em and not expect miracles from the first minute!

I don't think anybody will be expecting miracle from the first minute, most fans will give it to at least half time in the Sunderland game

Probably right - I've been away for a while so I'm not sure how bad the abuse has got. Never understood giving abuse to your own players. I reckon once you've got a Wanderers shirt on you should get 100% backing as long as you're playing and trying to the best of your ability. I'd imagine most of the people on Megson's back will be chanting his name if we win 2 or 3 on the bounce. Fickle lot!

by the sounds of it most would like a cup run, so maybe if we all want a cup win more of us could turn up to show we actualy want one. or is that asking alot?

The abuse of Megson was starting last night at Hearts in a friendly ffs.

13th, and our own internet warrior fans blaming the fans for when we play 4-5-1 v Burnley at home and manage a 0-0 draw ::lol::

Naah, I'm confident really, Megson has bought well and we've some decent players anyway, 10th will do for me 8)

I don't think Gary did himself any favours with his occasional sneering remarks about the fans last season. There's a detachment between him and many fans (that's the truth so don't pounce). The result of which he is more harshly judged. Just reality.

Back to the question, with 2 cover full backs signed, an average tall defender, and a half decent defensive midfielder, and the likelihood that Taylor/Davies won't repeat the high scoring of last season, we'll struggle , i hate to say.

justifying the abuse of megson in a friendly gives the abusers way more time than they deserve

they were even giving knight stick

I didn't justify it, i put forward a possible reason why he would get stick.

There's something missing at the moment, a disconnect between the club and the fans, no matter how you paper over the cracks.

Ha,dicks more like who only go to moan,if they dont like it then stay the fcuk away,

simple really :good:

Two full backs for cover, yet another defensive midfielder and a reasonable centre half won't transform a 41 point team into top half material. No chance.

Feck me, that's optomistic from you. I thowt you'd have is down for finishing 21st.

Now back under your stone until we tell you you can come out to play, there's a good lad.

How can there be a disconnect when the club are reducing ticket prices, signing good English players, providing free transport to away games, and most of all being a recognised Premiership club year after year.

Having said that, I agree that there is a disconnect, but to blame it on Megson is irrational. People getting upset by him having a go at the fans are just thin skinned whingers looking for any excuse to have a go. The guy tells it like it is, so get over it.

The only rational disconnect stems from the Carling Cup ticket fiasco v Middboro, and the wounds have healed from this (for me anyway)

I'm not a Megson basher, but that made me laugh.

Fans upset by Megson are "thin-skinned whingers" but Megson "tells it like it is".

That's a phishing trip if ever I saw one.

;)

Some of the 1,400 who travelled to Lisbon will disagree with that.

not fishing at all, thats how I see it

I didn't do Lisbon, but have done most of the European games away.

The Lisbon team selection was hardly a shock, if I recall correctly.

Now I'm not for a second excusing the bell ends who seem (at the game, never mind on t'internet) to be Megson bashers just for the sake of it (and have generated some of the right mardiest atmospheres I've known during me 30+ years of going), but the fact is his PR has been awful - he "appears" to be completely disinterested in the fans...until they give him grief that is. So much of the angst could have been nipped in the bud by him coming over to travelling fans and giving them the old Stuart Pearce clenched fist celebration after a win. A bit of connection. But it seems beyond him. Which is silly, because it's really not that hard.
