I wont tell you to "fuck off" (well thought out response to a non Megson fan as usual on here) but i have to admit i do like the signings the manager has made so far, going off the first half agains Hibs i do think he is attempting to change/tinker with the style.

Gary Megson will get my support while i think he is doing the best for the club i have supported since 1967.

I am more hopeful at the beginning of this season than i have been for a while, i just hope my positive feelings are proved right.

whatever you think of megson, there are a number of teams who i think will finsih below us next season.

 

Burnley Brum and Wolves do not seem to have strengthened much.

 

chuck in pompey with their potential to go bust and Hull who nned to improve incredibly on seconf half of last season.

 

wigan has sold their best 3 players in last 12 months and have a unproven manager at this level.

 

On the other hand the top 4 along with villa, city and spurs seem a million miles ahead of us.

 

we will finish mid table, above half way is a good season below 15th a bad season.

I admire your faith in his journeymen signings from Hull,WBA,Portsmouth etc.

Yes we haven't bought in the wanted creative midfielder or striker yet. But why splash money out on someone that isnt good enough to do the job when he could keep it and spend it on someone who could do the job and do it well. When this happens will we then gradually be able to change the style so that it is nicer to look at on the eye.

 

I know id rather him wait and get someone he is absolutely sure will succeed rather than watch him spend our money on anyone.

 

In regards to the signings he's made. Its strengthened the defense and midfield both of which was needed and brings competition for places which will hopefully drive people on to perform better.

No doubt the squad and team have improved on last season - so in one way the club has had a good summer. We have held onto the players who would be attractive for other clubs to sign and added some decent players too...

 

 

...but Megson can be his own worst enemy. We have talked on here about his 'knack' of sometimes opening his mouth before his brain is in gear and his statement in the summer about changing style was always a dangerous one. I for one, am glad he has retracted the statement because we all know what happened after the Sammy Lee summer of change.

I think you are mistaking style with success. Under Alardyce our 'style of play' was slated by all and sundry outside of Bolton but our League positions were the best in living memory. Choosing a more open and attacking style of play is very risky unless you have the right players. As he has stated, he has not been able, as yet, to buy the quality midfielder and attacker that he and the fans would like so he is being rightly cautious.
