Cole and Defoe have looked a better pairing the Rooney and Heskey on tonights showing.

 

Beckham has been a sub pretty much all of capello's reign and as the Yank season is in full swing he's closer to match fit than any of the others.

Unfortunately, they found us.

I don't know about anybody else, but I was really happy with tonight. Bar two really catastrophic backpasses we were the better team for the duration. I thought we controlled the tempo right the way through, never looked like panicking even at 2-0 down and restricted them to a few half chances. Babel was the only player for the Dutch who I thought looked like he could cause us problems.

 

Bear in mind this is Holland, one of the best teams in the Euros, at their place in front of a full house, with a 100% record in the qualifiers and virtually a full strength side out and we made them look very ordinary.

 

I know the backpasses will overshadow things - but I was genuinely made up with the way we played out from the back, linked up throughout the pitch and created chances. With the exception of Glen Johnson who I thought was poor, and forgetting the stupid errors which are unlikely to happen again, I think every player in an England shirt had a decent game. Beckham put a good shift in, Heskey played well while he was on and the subs obviouisly all made an impact.

 

Fair play to Milner for nearly getting his head taken off trying to get to Coles ball for the equaliser as well.

 

Take out the two daft goals and we would have been crowing about tonight as a famous victory for a very long time. I'm going to bed happy, even if no-one else is!
