Hierro is doing very well as coach of the Spanish u21s,and Speed is player coach at Sheff Utd both have connections to the club albeit in Hierro's case just 1 season,but I seriously think they could get a lot more out of our current squad than the present incumbent can.

Although I seriously doubt we could geet Hierro to come it's still a better combination than most have come up with imo.

Agreed Super John,it could fail,but I for one don,t think it would both have vast international careers behind them plus they both have wide ranging contacts that would enable them to bring in quality players,and even on loan if the cash is not available just my opinion,but I think this is a really good shout.

Bloody Hell didn't realise he was in such a prominent position highlights again the class of the man - not sure how good his english is, that's a factor for me on any new manager - the chances of us ever getting close enough to him being our manager to worry about that are well seriously slim at best but never say never.

 

As for Gary well having slept on it, it's a big week ahead for the team as the pressure mounts - tough cup game plus top 4 side - it's rally the troops time I'm going tranmere now i'd much rather see us in the next round of carling cup and at least bloody the scousers nose than see our situation get worse by bad results and performances which might hasten his exit

As I've said before I judge things on merit - I'm not anti-Megson and it doesn't give me any pleasure at all to see my team struggle.

 

Based on actual performances and results of this season and in 2009 in general, we are not going to "end up in mid table obscurity/safety again" - in fact we are heading for about 24 points (well short of safety) unless results improve dramatically soon.

 

Robinson, Knight and Ricketts are not exactly new faces around the football league - all of them played in the Premiership last season - non of them have had stand out careers to date and so the 'ordinary' tag seems appropriate to me.

 

The clubs own published set of accounts state that we were in debt of ?53.5 million.

Thing is though mate when do we shed the "little Bolton" tag. This is our 9th consecutive season in the PL. We've had 10 full, completed, seasons in it since it started, and only 11 of the current 20 teams there can say they are into double figures like us.

Yes, me and thee and many on the board have seen us in the pits; what was it, 4 or 5 consecutive seasons in the 80s where we had season averages of sub 5k? I was among 1,987 at Wimbledon in an unwinnable league cup second leg in the early 90s. BUT there's no point in harking back to that. The fact is we are an established PL team now and we need a manager who can deliver the goods at that level. And with the best will in the world its hard to see what from his current activities, or his previous record with other clubs, would suggest that he can deliver that.

I know what you mean J. I speak to the relatives regularly and it's everywhere. I ain't, and have never been 'pro Megson'. Didn't want him here in the first place. What I am gobsmacked about is that there was a fair bit of positive vibe around on here two weeks ago and after two 1-0 defeats, the world is ending. FFS, if Winnie had given up at the first couple of setbacks, we'd all be speaking kraut now.

You have a point BGOE but I still think we have good players and are a decent team. Yes we dont have the flair and skill of previous years but I genuinely believe that with the right management, tactics and team selection we can quite easily achieve mid table respectability.
