secret millionaire..............going on tv saying look at me i am a millionaire, but prepared to give some money away to reduce my tax bill is not the best way to keep it secret is it ?

Whilst it may have been possible, during the first series, to keep your identity secret so that folk didn't 'suck up' to gain favour, I think now, after a few series, any random bloke/woman who turns up as a volunteer along with a TV film crew would be a cert for Secret Millionaire.

I know there is much talk about how they are promoting their own ego and self importance, but they are giving money away to folk/charities that may not get the money otherwise. I don't give a toss if they get a certain amount of tax relief from it, they're still helping folk out.

 

To put it in context, we currently have a thread going about the great work that the Bolton Wanderers Disability Football Club do, and we are talking about helping to raise funds. Now I'm sure that if some "secret millionaire" came and helped out for a few days, got the organisation a good bit of publicity and then promptly handed over a cheque for ?20K, people wouldn't call him an egotistical wanker and tell him to shove his cheque up his arse. They would be pleased as punch not only with the cash, but with the exposure generated as well.
