I've seen flashed from Riga in brief spells which make me think he might not be a bad bet, given more opportunity, and more confidence. Not for the first time I think we might be guilty of having made up our mind too early on a player - we do have previous as a fanbase in that regard - whilst at the same time others patently not good enough are given far too long a run (errr, Vaz Te anyone??) I'm not saying he should be first name on the team sheet by any stretch but he's been singled out for criticism in games where they've all played sh!t. Plus it's very difficult to effect games as a sub, we all know that...

Saw him pre-season at Eindhoven when he had a full game. He looked hopeless against at best a Division 1 standard full back who just took the ball off him every time.

Our morons who chanted Riga, Riga did so in order to show they know far more about team selection and tactics than GM.

Whether Vaz Te is good enough is certainly questionable but has he really been given far too much time? Under Allardyce he was restricted to sub appearances, which, you rightly say, are hard to show your talent in.

 

The one time he got an extended run in the team, up front, was at the end of the season before we signed Anelka. As I remember he scored 4 in 5 or something similar and looked good. Hasn't he been injured pretty much ever since?

 

I doubt we will ever see Vaz Te being a success at Bolton but I think it is a series if unfortunate events rather than a lack of ability.

According to this Marca report, Riga's could be heading back to Spanish league 2 side Celta.......
