Megson Vs Allardyce The Evidence

Featured Replies

No longer is there players the standard of Djorkaeff, Okocha, Campo etc available on free transfers. That was a niche in the market that doesnt exist anymore. Allardyce wont get Blackburn as high as we got simple as that.

Spot on.

This was proved in the summer. We used to pick up established internationals a little past their prime for nothing but a decent signing on fee and bigger wages than we offered our "regular" players.

Only one similar player came onto the market this summer: Michael Owen. No small club got a sniff, as even clubs like Man Utd are playing our old game now.

Weve almost signed Van der Saar, Hasselbaink and loads of others. That doesnt mean shit.

You are quite right, it does not mean shit. It means Dunn was nearly a Bolton player and would have been only for Blackburn coming in for him at the last minute.

When Allardyce was playing the transfer market, there was less money in the game. We can never compete with teams like City when the they have a multi-billionaire bankrolling us. It is not almost impossible for us and teams like us to finish about City, Villa et al.

People may not be able to see that but the world has changed in a very short time.

Maybe someone with too much time on their hnads can do a breakdown of results for the last 6 months of Big Sam against Megson's last 6 months. Bet that would be interesting.

It is the job of the manager and the scouts to find players who can move Bolton forward. I do not accept that the situation was any less difficult for BSA when he was at Bolton. This is a kop out.

It is easy to identify problems and GM is always telling us how tough the challenge is. However what BSA did was he found answers. The market he exploited so well had always existed, he simply identified what Bolton could do within this and made it work for us.

GM has done an ok job keeping us in the Premier League but he is not the man to move us forward. I do not have unrealistic expectations but we can do better. If GM doesnt think this then he has to go.

Every other club is doing the same. Many have more money than us. These clubs didn't have that money 3 or 4 years ago. Accept it or not, it's factual. It's not a kop out to say we can't compete with City these days, anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

Your right we cant compete with City in the transfer market, who can? There have always been teams who have more money than other clubs, this is nothing new. It was exactly the same for BSA, but he found a way to work the system in our favour. I am not deluded as in our very recent history we have achieved exactly what I am saying we should strive to achieve again. We may have to adapt our methods of achieving this success, but that has always been the case, its nothing new.

Go on then i'll bite  -

Allardyce last 19 Premier league games at Bolton P 19, W8, D4, L7,= 28pts

Megsons last 19 Premier league games at Bolton P19, W3, D6, L10,= 15pts

We've 11pts from Megson's last 12 league games ie all this season.

We got 15pts from Allardyce's last 12 games, in a poorer (financially) league.

What a load of spunk dribble. Hes been injured for ages, all he did was get fit again.

Even when fit other managers have played Dunn in midfield (either wide or centrally) , he hasn't done much. Allardyce has to take credit for moving up into the 'hole' behind the front man & leaving strikers such as McCarthy on the bench to accomodate this.

Just getting him fit is not down to the manager , I agree , but getting him in a team where he looks like a top class player again (all of a sudden after years of doing not much) is.

fact.

Also a fact Megson would accomodate a David Dunn type in the side because he'd see him a a luxury player. That's why no one will ever really enjoy going to watch Bolton again until he's gone & by enjoy I mean get a real buzz when

a) we take a team apart from a footballing perspective like we used to when Rioch (and even Todd) was in charge

B) we used to completely outplay the likes of Arsenal at home with a combination of brute force & bit of skill in the last 3rd to get us a goal when BSA was in charge

Yeah, that's roughly what I suspected, not a million miles apart - and that's with Anelka leading the line.

Frank - haven't seen too much of this lad so will bow to your knowledge , but as Zico says , not in the side even for a home game against a side we should be looking to beat at home, sums it up.

perhaps he was too knackered after flying too/from korea in the week before?

if megson was so defensively minded as you're trying to make out

he'd have gome with a midfield 5 of Steinsson, McCann, Muamba, Basham, Taylor with Davies up top.

Megson does a lot of things wrong but claiming he wouldn't play Dunn as he's a 'luxury player' is plain daft

korea did play serbia in a friendly

but it was in london, i think

so they did.

OK sumo is correct Megson is the anti-christ and should be hung drawn and quartered on Victoria Square at the first opportunity

and he was poor in previous couple of games.

i wouldnt have started lee against rovers in a derby either.

i have no issue with the starting line up, it was a team that should have done a job,

but those PLAYERS were shite and MEGSON had no plan b when things werent working.

plan A was hoof it to davies see if he can beat a huge beast of a man in the air to knock it down to Elmander

The team was completley wrong on Saturday. Weve tried the Davies route against them many a time and it doesnt work. We needed players who are quick and can run with the ball. Unfortunatley our quickest striker was on the bench, two of our best dribblers were sat with him and all we had was a slow lethargic team.

sorry, why do we need this exactly?

milan nearly won the european cup with a bunch of 40 year olds, they never broke sweat.

as brian clough said "why are running with that ball? just pass it to him, the ball will get there fast than you ever will" (or word to that effect)

They could pass their way through a jungle though, unfortunatley we dont have that calibre of player. As for the Brian Clough bollocks we did plenty of that on sunday, either side to side or straight to them which was no fucking use. We needed to go out and attack them and beat them, not wait for a slip up. They lost their last 10 away games for fuck sake!

so surley law of averages says they were due a win?

im not disagreeing we should have beaten them, but i dont buy this, "put 2 up front, 2 wingers, 1 attacking midfielder, all running with the ball" shite

we should play to our strengths, and imo thats simple direct football, but on the deck as well as in the air like we did against spurs and everton.

sorry, why do we need this exactly?

chelsea play with 1 (Cole or Malouda)

United 1 Nani or Valencia

liverpool have Riera

city, spurs and arsenal have a shit load though.
