December 28, 200916 yr Modern (ish) era Gudni Bergson? Alan Stubbs? Hierro? Campo? Just out of interest, If you could have any one of them at their peak, who would you have to partner Cahill?
December 28, 200916 yr Should/Could Laville not make that short list? I know he wasnt with us long, but he made a huge impression whilst he was here.
December 28, 200916 yr Modern (ish) era Gudni Bergson? Alan Stubbs? Hierro? Campo? Just out of interest, If you could have any one of them at their peak, who would you have to partner Cahill? Bergsson Would sort out Cahill BTW Could Cahill play in front of the back four?
December 28, 200916 yr Cahill would make a good defensive midfielder. But then we've no centre halves!
December 28, 200916 yr gudni had his limitations but more than made up for it with proper application, consistency, and he actually improved as the side improved by reading the game better. For me he was on a par with Paul Jones but i'd put him ahead.
December 28, 200916 yr Modern (ish) era Gudni Bergson? Alan Stubbs? Hierro? Campo? Just out of interest, If you could have any one of them at their peak, who would you have to partner Cahill? Did Hierro play Centre half for us? Stubbs? get fucked.
December 28, 200916 yr Stubbs? get fucked. He was good at scaring the shit out of us with his backward headers to the 'keeper
December 28, 200916 yr Don't forget Chris Fairclough and Bruno N'Gotty both where excellent centre halves too.
December 28, 200916 yr Agree Florent Laville was the dbs in the majority of games he played in that I watched and a great partner to Bruno N'gotty who, in my opinion was the steadiest defender we have had in the last 12 years. Couldn't have done much about Laville getting the cruciate ligament injury but Bruno was let go a full season before he should have been, so you've got to ask whether there was any truth in the tale that he had fallen out with someone in a position of authority over his love life.

I remember something about that, who was it again?
December 28, 200916 yr Author Did Hierro play Centre half for us? Stubbs? get fucked. Maybe my memories playing tricks, but weren't his best games for us at centre half? Stubbs was one of the few Bolton centre halves who could actually pass a ball Don't forget Chris Fairclough and Bruno N'Gotty both where excellent centre halves too. Aye they were good, and Laville was decent too. I used to think Mark Winstanley was ok back in the day.
December 28, 200916 yr Malcolm Barrass and Paul Jones were the best two centre halves I've seen playing for Bolton closely followed by Gudni.
December 28, 200916 yr Does anyone rate Mark Fish?? I thought he was class for us until he decided he didnt want to stick around!! He did tend to drift forward a bit to often and leave space at the back, a bit like Cahill
December 28, 200916 yr Also thought Simon Coleman, was a great centre half, I dont think he really recovered from his broken leg though
December 28, 200916 yr I remember something about that, who was it again? PG's wife was mentioned in the rumours at the time. Think 'Diver is correct.
December 28, 200916 yr If you say at their peak, then Hierro. No doubt Hierro wasn't at his peak for us. And if he did play CB, it wasn't often. And, somewhat more controversially: his good games for us could be counted without using all your fingers.
December 28, 200916 yr The best pairing I have seen were Jones and Allardyce. Worked superbly. I recall the press referring to them as the Twin Towers.
