Not everyone will be able to make it on Thursday. If anyone who isn't attending, would like a question to be asked, please put it on this thread and we will try to get it answered.

see point 7.

coyle asked him did he know why you get 11 men back.

he said no.

so coyle put him straight :D

11 men back at corners doesn't make sense to me.

One player stays on the half way line, the opposition will put two defenders on him (less attackers). This player gives you an outlet if/when you win the ball (or clear it) from the corner, rather than hoofing it back to their lone defender to put the ball straight back into the mix. Plus it could be argued that too many bodies in the box makes it easy for an attacker to lose their marker.

maybe you should tell megson, coyle and wenger they've all got it wrong?

who in our squad would you leave up?

i understand where your coming from but id take coyle (and megsons opinion) over yours.

not to say you are wrong as some teams leave 1, even 2 up.

imo, the only time id leave a player up, would be if hes fukcin useless defending in his own box (ie robinho perhaps?)

Pretty sure Villa do it too.

The answer was, you're less likely to concede if eveerybody is back than you are likely to score if you leave one or two up on the break.

What Coyle did say is that although everybody might be back, the quicker players will likeley be on the edge of the box, so a break will be supported.

In doing this, he probably went into too much detail to be honest. I'd have said "shut the fuck up, you know fuck all"

well seeing as we have only kept one clean sheet in the PL this season, we need all the bodies we can back defending set pieces

So maybe CBWFCD's opinion is the right one.

i have two suggestions for any future ones

tell clowns not too ask what the manager thinks about his players ffs

owen, do you think elmander was worth 8 million

no, course not, he's shite

ffs

and also, a follow up question from the original questioner

all nice to know eddie keeps us afloat and we only owe him, but a question would've been, what if eddie

dies, loses interest, needs his cash

70% of the questions came from halfwit retards

Davies is past it, dont you think owen

Complaining about Jussi throttling his own players

Lets rip up Klasnic' loan deal and sign him now

FFS

Cretins

Anyhow, Coyle certainly says the things we want to hear. Getting closer with the fans, the local community, he reminds me a little bit of Rioch, theres definately something thats rubbed off from that era.

And top marks for getting two "fucks" in :good:

So maybe CBWFCD's opinion is the right one.

maybe it is

but id trust the professionals on this one

which reminds me

he bollocked elmander after his 10 minute run v arsenal...since then, the fella has been a dream

and chung leaving his post at arsenal cost us vermaelens goal

coyle gave the impression it won't happen again

oh aye, owen agreed our kits are shite

Did anyone hold PhilG accountable for the Megson affair?

Megson had an affair? With the chairmans wife no doubt. It makes sense now, why else would we have gotten rid of him. :pardon:

he defended megson, saying he was an interim manager (and megson agreed) and the club was in a far better position now than when megson 1st tookover.

he was given a job to make changes and now coyle has to take to another level.

he was applauded for this answer.

So Megson was Gartside's patsy after all, maybe people who know football did know why he got him in!! Interesting

I think current thinking is actually the opposite, in that more bodies in the box actually make it less likely for a striker to find space for a unchallenged header??

I thought it was a good evening.. was funny seeing Coyle's face after that young lad joked he was from Burnley hehe... thought Alan Gowling wasted 5 minutes of precious question time at the end discussing the United financial situation ha... they said they'd do one again, hope they do... Quite a funny bloke is our Moses :good:

I don't disagree that they know a world more about it that I do, but i don't understand the logic. I was hoping there might have been a bit more to Coyle's answer.

You see the attackers trying to back their markers into other players to allow them to break away from them, i'd imagine the more crowded it is, the easier that gets. But I see the point that finding the space afterwords is more difficult with more bodies, providing they are looking out for it.

They will have done their homework, i'm sure they are right that you are less likely to concede, we had an abysmal record defending with set pieces like this at one stage.

I thought more importantly than scoring on the break was the ability to regain posession and relieve the pressure. Are the opposition more likely to score from one corner, or a corner and 3 or 4 balls back into the box?

Doesn't sound like he went into too much detail to me, wasn't getting answers to questions the point of the exercise.

Happy, this is why we need the red marker option.

ffs, fans forum and your asking for justification from coyle to explain why he and the majority of others defend corners with 11

ffs

on the plus side, it shows theres fuck all worth while moaning about

i bet he was wondering why the fuck he bothered.

makes me wonder why megson never wanted to do one....oops

he did also say he likes players on the posts from corners, and if lee had stayed on the post that vermalin bloke would not have scored at arsenal, a fair point i must admit says the likelihood of defending team scoring on a breakaway from a corner is minimal but odds stacked in attacking teams favour if you dont pull everybody back or something similar.

tony stick to fixing lifts lad thats neither funny or true.

Right let's get one thing straight about this having everybody back for corners thing...

It's not black and white / right and wrong - It's like Benitez and his zonal marking system...you're a believer in it or you're not...it's an opinion

Those so smugly saying that it must be right because Coyle, Wenger and a few other Managers do it so we shouldn't question it, have conveniently forgotten to mention that many, many more Pro-Managers do not employ the tactic.

Personally I believe it's a terrible tactic, but that's just my opinion

While we're on about the corner situation i totally agree with him about having a man on each post...

Defending with 11 men back on set pieces makes sense if you know your football as OC explained it. The opposing team will push all their boys up as there is no one to mark. We have are fastest boys on the edge of our box, defending of course but they are there ready for the quick break. Makes sense to me.

also depends on how good you defend as team generally.

top teams have better defender so possibly dont need the numbers.

so one rule for one team may not apply for another.

coyle said he is gonna use all 11, so lets leave it at that.
