frank_spencer Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 A lot has to do with the kind of people going. There are more families going these days, and while there is nothing wrong with that, the traditional core support has been diluted. Pricing is one factor. Alcohol restrictions and the smoking ban haven't helped. The club can't overturn the laws that contributed, but to have an area where the club's policy is not to enforce sitting will help. Better football on the pitch will also help, but it will take time for people to cotton on and start to arrange their time around matches, rather than fitting games around their own schedules. Semi-regulars will buy season tickets. Occasional supporters will join the membership scheme. Whilst i agree with the sentiment, it'll never happen as the law requires people to be sat down. If they're not then the club risks losing it's safety license. In order for football to be better all round (it's not just bolton with crap attendances) a few laws/rules need changing. Standing area's to be introduced similar to in Germany Booze to be allowed in seats/standing areas as is the case at rugby/cricket As Garrp said the broadcasting of matches within the bolton area is to be banned in pubs especially, be it on Sky or by dodgy iraqi feeds.
Loft Nuthouse Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 fucking hell I've said it a million times before but I'll say it again. The whols east lower should be a tenner per match for a season. On several conditions: * People can stand * 1 in 10 people are given a distress flare * Several Ultras banners are made and spread the length of the stand * Minimal stewarding - a line of coppers diving the away fans is ok * 1 in 20 people are 20 year old blond girls with massive busters wearing a leotard. * Anyone sat moaning about there being an intimidating atmosphere is dragged to the front row and made to eat 5 seats. You get the idea. I'm all for proposals 1 and 5, it might even get me back every week.
jules_darby Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 You know what, we've been talking about this for years My conclusion now is that for the most part, folk that have gone, have gotten out of the habit - and it's extremely hard to get 'em back I haven't got a ST this year, so I know what I'm talking about I reckon the club may get more mileage getting new fans on board - concentrate on the local kids Us lot in our 30's / 40s++ have too many tired old excuses

Fresh blood is the future.
DeaneWhite Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Whilst i agree with the sentiment, it'll never happen as the law requires people to be sat down. It is not against the law for supporters to stand during a match. The law does require that every supporter in the top two divisions has an allocated seat. Every supporter must have a seat- they do not necessarily have to sit in it. The Green Guide states that clubs should ensure that standind spectators do not impede the views of those who wish to be seated. It has been clarified in Parliament that it is up to individual clubs to decide their own policy. A standing supporter is not in breach of any law whatsoever. Nor is a club which allows supporters to stand- at least until an accident occurs that has been caused by standing spectators. The Government and the other main parties have made it clear that they have no intention whatsoever of allowing terracing in the top two divisions. The FA has also made it clear that they are more likely to want all-seater stadia all the way down the football pyramid than allow what they see as a a retrograde step. Basically, either clubs will have to turn a blind eye to standing in seated areas or peope will have to go to non-league games if they wish to stand. The law governing alcohol and football will not be overturned. In fact, it is the FA's policy to extend this to all levels of the game, as has happened in the last season or so. It is already illegal for most of the pubs who show live Bolton games to show them. Many do not pay the proper licence fees and subscriptions for the games they could legitimately show, and all Saturday 3pm league games are legally not available to anyone in this country. It is the broadcaster's responsibility to ensure that transmissions that should not be received in this country are encrypted in such a way that they can't be. Any pub showing such games is in serious breach of broadcast and copyright laws. The penalty for such things can include loss of alcohol licence. Don't worry, most pubs will be out of business soon amyway! The club can easily employ a "passive stewarding" policy. In some regards it already does, as they have certainly relaxed in the ESL and the away end in recent times. Before, if you stood up to celebrate a goal, you were told to sit down. Next time you stood up, you would be ejected. It just needs to be clear when purchasing tickets that spectators will not be required to sit. Any one who wishes to sit should get a front row seat or choose a seat elsewhere in the ground, where sitting is enforced. A sort of semi-official standing area. That can be done, and already happens at most grounds. Away fans almost always stand and get away with it. Some boycotted the Reebok for a while because they were forced to sit. Most away fans rated the Reebok highly for its catering, legroom and views of the pitch. But most marked it down because of overly strict stewarding.
MickyD Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 The most annoying thing, as far as I'm concerned, is that, should Bolton get to the FA Cup final we'll suddenly have 50,000 'fans all wanting tickets for themselves, their wife, her sister's uncle whose son wouldn't mind going either. We all remember what happened last time. Do you think they've sorted out a better system yet?
DeaneWhite Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 The best system is to prioritise cup tickets as they already do for other games. Lifline/ Season Ticket holders first, then members then open sale. If they limit Season Ticket Holders to one additional ticket, there would be a substantial amount of open sale tickets. These should be sold half online to previous purchasers only, with the remainder only from the ticket office in person. We'd get an allocation of around 25,000 at Wembley, with further allocations if required. Those who go to Bolton games regularly should have no problem getting tickets. The main problem seems to be in ensuring people get tickets in time for the game. Collection in person has to be the best way. Most exiles will have people they can trust to collect tickets on their behalf. A simple reference number, as most airlines use, should be sufficient to collect tickets.

Do you remember the Carling Cup? I'd hardly say Lifeline membership is up there with Season Ticket Holders on a scale of supporting the club these days, do you?
Carlos Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 25,000 is a decent number to handle, there would be enough to go round - 1 each, no messing. The Carling Cup issue was we had more than that and Gareth Moores though, incorrectly, that we'd struggle to sell them all, hence the 2 per every single scheme. The problem with that was still people's greed, a bit like Scousers, we have to accept it was OUR FANS that fucked it up as much as the club, getting 2 tickets for the windowcleaner on their Goldline once they'd sorted themselves and their extended family out on their STs.
gonzo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 away from the matchday experience etc..i lost count on how many times i met bolton fans, working in and around bolton that said they didnt bother anymore, the reason being 'untill megson goes, blah blah blah'..one bloke i met working at markland school said him and 8 of his mates who had season tickets for years before diddnt bother because of the football under megson.now is the time for this type to get of their arses and get back. personally, ive never give up watching the whites, but can easily understand how once you stop..its very hard to get back in the routine, especially when you dont have a season ticket.i mean seriously,if i diddnt have a season ticket i would find it very difficult to cough up 30 qid for the averidge home game. like i said in an earlier post(not garrp!)maybe somthing should be done about pubs in bolton showing home games, that would soon make it alot more diffcult for the cheaper option. obsiouvsly cheaper tikcets would also help..remember,was it grimsby at home with 24,000ish on,because they had adults a fiver and kids for free?.. the whole thing around the reebok needs a serious look at too,i know we are now in the age families, kids etc comming to football, which is great, but there is still the core suport that wants beer and maybe something to eat..that isnt macdonalds, kfc or currnet tea cake form asda. why isnt there an abundance of burger vans around the ground? have look at old trafford or goodison and have a look at the amount around their grounds..it all adds to the traditional matchday expereince that seems to well and truly escaped the reebok. few beers not far from ground, burger and a programe/fanzine on way to match..whilst i love th look of the ground its all very plastic, but could easily made better with a few simple steps!. just like my idea of creating (properly) an 'end',i think if the club listend to the averidge white, like they seem to want to at the moment, alot could be changed for the better.
