Depends on what other deductions are being taken, he may have 20k put straight into an investment account that he's not counting.

 

One things for sure, it's more that what me or thee are on.

I think it is actually more likely for Portsmouth to be liquidated than anything else. Hence the 'ridiculous' request to sell players.If it's a choice between this and going bust completely, FIFA and PL might consider it but the other clubs will not go for it (surely?). Then the owners can say they tried everything.

 

The PL will bust a gut to prevent Pompey going bust and this is there only hope. There will be enormous pressure for them to go into administration as the lesser of two evils. But supposing these owners have an agenda and don't even seek administration?

 

Whatever happens it will affect us and the rest of the Premier League that's for sure.

Would it not be possible to do this on the strict understanding that they pay HMRC the overdue amount, thus avoiding being wound-up, and then go into administration? Portsmouth fulfil the seasons fixtures avoiding an unholy mess for everyone and conveniently get relegated at the end of it.

The short answer seems to be that the other Premiership clubs need to agree any such action (assuming it can be taken in the first place).

 

Some clubs (such as ourselves) would be better off if Portsmouth survived - however some clubs (Chelsea for instance) would be better off if they went out of business and Portsmouth results became null and void.

 

It seems clear that some clubs would object to a change in the rules to help Portsmouth survive - and thus could lead to legal action if this happened.

 

It is all a very, very messy business.

If the company is insolvent and doesn't pay its tax bill in full by March 1st, there is no possibility of administration. The winding-up order will be granted and the official receiver brought in. If by some miracle, the official receiver (or a person appointed by him/her) decides that the club can fulfil its fixtures, Pompey will be deducted 9 points. Premier League rules speak not of administration specifically, but an "insolvency event". An insolvency event includes administration and liquidation, as well as defaulting on payments to "football creditors", amongst other events. A club is only subject to one such deduction for the same reason, for example a club goes into administration and the administrator calls in the official receiver, the club will only be deducted a total of 9 points (10 in every other league). If a club were to be deducted one set of 9 points for defaulting football creditors, and was later placed into administration, the two issues are seperate events. A further 9 points could then be deducted.

 

It is possible that someone buys the club after the official receiver is appointed, and the club could continue to operate beyond March 1st. This is unlikely, so we should brace ourselves for a 3 point deduction of our own.

Someone will have to come up with the HMRC's ?12m owing to stop them being wound up. HMRC won't make any concessions at this stage, it sets a precedent.

The rules are quite clear. Although it is unfair to us, operating the league as if Portsmouth never played is the fairest way of dealing with the situation, if Pompey are unable to fulfil their fixtures. Worse is if those who are still to play them are awarded 3 points automatically. Although we would benefit from that, some clubs actually had to play them and pick up injuries in order to get the points, while others just get given them. If they just gave them one point, that would be even worse as most team would have beaten them. Not awarding any but allowing results to stand is unfair as all the other clubs have one less game. Expunging the team's playing record- as harsh as it is- is the only fair way. The word "fair" usually means that all parties are treated equally, and that is my usage of the word in this post.

While having every sympathy with Pompey's fans, the club have already cheated this season as things stand.

They've used money they don't have to keep the squad strong (by not selling last summer and January) and even signed players in January to strengthen further.

And why should they be advanced future monies ? Couldn't clubs like us have made good use of future monies in January ?

It all makes a complete joke of the 'fit & proper persons' test for club owners, and there are lots more examples around the various leagues.
