and then the qoute these "The likes of Alan Stubbs, Jason Lydiate, Julian Darby, Mark Winstanley, Neil Fisher and Mike Jeffries all passed through the club in the early 1990s having come right through the club?s ranks" 3 out 6 hardly pulled up trees

IIRC we bought Lydiate the idiot from the DMB's

It doesnt help that this time last year we had Alan Cork in charge of the reserves.

Who the fook would aspire to work with him.

You are, indeed, correct.

Lydiate' date=' a right-back, began his career as a trainee with Alex Ferguson's Manchester United in 1990. After two years at Old Trafford, he joined Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer.[/quote']

what does this mean exactly:

"With both being ex-players with Bolton they also understand the club?s mentality" said Phillips.

what is our mentality?

sounds like bollocks to me

finding players to perform at our level is a deal more difficult that turning out the likes of jeffrey, idiot, wistanley and fisher

our problem is that we don't attract kids who are good enough

coyle says as much in the interview

The best we can hope for, more often than not, is the kid who doesn't quite make the grade at Man U. It's long been the case that because they have the best facilities and biggest name, kids are queueing up to get there.

They used to identify a few decent coaches at kids football teams and recruit them to become Man U satelite coaching groups. That way the kids are getting all the kudos from their school mates for "being on the books at Man U" even though the likelyhood, at this stage, is that they won't ever get to play for them.

What do Bolton do? Send a bloke with a clip board and a embroidered BWFC jacket to look at a kid they've heard about.

sorry Bolton, you're just playing at it!

The half decent youngsters we do have end up being pinched by the bigger clubs before they turn 17.

Why doesn't that happen to Crewe who seem to turn out the likes of Dean Ashton, and Nicky Maynard with regular progression?

Location? Treat them(and parents)well? They have a track record of churning out talent so they can say to them, stay here and learn your trade and 2/3 seasons later we'll sell you once a bigger club with a suitable offer comes in.

OC makes the point that we should be selling BWFC to kids and their parents : if you go to ManU or Citeh or Liverpool, you'll probably never even see the Reserves let alone the first team. Bolton believe in young players and you'll have a better chance here. Plus, he should add, we won't stand in your way of a move to a big club, if it somes to that.

Whether the club can sell that, I don't know. But it's time we tried something new and (possibly) more professional.

I can Phillips getting the sack and McGinlay taking over with his success at Cincinetti Premier United

If you were selling your Club and youth set up correctly, you would be taking players off the bigger Clubs in the North West.

Its obviously hard, as kids will want to go to the bigger 4 Clubs close by, but something has to be done. Somoene said Crew, also Boro. Small clubs, that do well.

If my lad turns out to be a good player, ideally, I would like him to go to Bolton, its close, its the Loacl Club. BUT I would listen to every Club avaiable, and choose the best for him, not the biggest Club. Im sure most parents feel that way, maybe Bolton dont even bother trying ???

Gumbo has particularly strong and qualified views on this subject and I'm sure he'll throw his views in once he returns from T'Egypt.

Some interesting points and I like Pablo's view, shared by some parents but not by many.

At 6 (yes six) 7 and 8 if a kid is showing signs of 'progresive development' he would be invited by many clubs in the area to a development centre.

At 9 a first contract can be offered.

DMB, City, Liverpool, Everton and Rovers usually are all over tournaments like a rash. (The conveyer belt clubs as their known)

Burnley, Wigan, Bolton, Crewe, Preston pick up young players but players that have often already been at an above club.

It is true the scouts at clubs in the second catergory claim that they offer a 'greater' chance of progression.

Then you get your released player clubs (all others in the area) Rochdale and Stockport have excellent youth to pro success.

My views on how clubs treat players and success rates at clubs including Bolton will not be expressed on this open forum. Its not worth it but many are good, Everton is excellent and all have faults.

The faults are often highlighted by parents when their son is released of course!

BWFC have very good coaches but I know one player who Bolton want to sign, hes currently at Burnley and lives in Horwich...

Scouting issue possibly?

Do Bolton scouts go to schools in Bolton ? Do they still run football sessions, hour session's at Primary school's. Do they do mini tournaments, or free 3/4 week courses ?? How about BWFC fun days, at selected schools, half term weeks, just as they break up, even at the start and end of seasons.

When I was at Devonshire Road, we had 2 BWFC training days / courses, we had 1 trainer and 1 helper from BWFC spend half a day with us, giving out little medals's for penalties, and kick ups etc. But then, I went to Smithills, and never once did I see or hear of Anything offerd to us at that school......the biggest in Bolton (Bolton School aside).

Maybe its not just about picking up the telented kids, maybe its about getting kids in general aware, that their is a big football club in this town, that care about its community, weather you end up playing for them or not.

They're partners with the Bury and Bolton junior leagues apparently they take a look a each side a few times over a season.

i know bolton used to go to schools to scout quite regulary, liverpool now have more programs in place to scout schools and youth clubs.

?23 a day !!!

Nice Commuunity spirit!

I remember when I played for Astley Bridge we had a few really good players, and scouts come watching a few times.

Not 1 Bolton Scout came, United Liverpoo, and Everton were the only Clubs that came.

In my experience, scouts including Bolton's are all over talented club players like a rash, not many seem to slip the net are likely to be picked up by scouts time and time again. Many big clubs not only have academies but satellite centres in districts and then shadow squads below elite squads, up to 200 kids could be proclaiming that they play for Liverpool at the younger age group. I have first hand experiences of parents of younger kids choosing to leave Bolton for bigger clubs in the area for no other reason than the poor standard of coaching on offer.

And thts the only reason why they should be leaving.
