Car Insurance Advice

Featured Replies

my 20yr old daughter wants her own car, having previously been a named driver on the wife's policy. I have had a quote of ?1700 for her on a car that's worth ?900!

Can anyone who's been in this predicament offer any genuine advice, for the best/cheapest way to do it.?

have you stuck you or the wife on the policy to bring it down a touch?

Some insurers will also allow her to build up her no claims bonus as a named driver on a policy.

The missus got her 1st car an N reg Pug 106 for ?450 and it cost her ?1500 to insure.

Tell em she's a vicar

Why should you be suprised?

The reason being, with that ?900 car she could potentially cause tens of thousands of pounds of third party damage, which the insurance company would have to fork out.

That and insurance companies are, on the whole, the biggest set of tw@ts out there. They probably out-twat the banks to be honest.

I used for a while Elephant, Bell & Admiral

They are all part of the Admiral group but do vary on price

Bell will let you tailor your package more than the other two

They did offer a 10 month bonus accelerator which counts as a years no claims bonus

I did a few things when I used them

Lowest miles

Social driving only

Added my mum as a second driver, housewife, 5 years no claims shaved 20%+ off the quote

Said I drive another car - they dont ask what this is

They used to be by far the cheapest for me and they arent on the comparison sites as I know

Though they wanted ?200 extra to renew this time the cunts

And my premium had only been ?300 previously

But at the price you have, theres nothing to lose

Unless they want ?2000

try to get her on her own policy, first year or two will cost a fortune.. but the no claims is worth it as sooner or later, she will have to have her own policy..

i'm assuming shes working.. etc

btw im 27, my insurance is 1100 a year with 4 yrs no claims, nil points etc..

lifes financially shit for us young uns..

got my car insurance renewal quote this week from aviva who i am currently with, went up by approx 15 quid a month, went on them compare websites and cheapest i was finding was sround ?100 a month which was about 30 quid more than i am currently paying!

Rang Aviva and they got me a quote that was same as last years prices. 4 years no claims and this is the only year its not gone down in price! fuckers!

no wonder i always feel skint! At this rate may need a second job!

My insurance has gone up ?90 this year, no claims or owt like that, 9 years NCD, youngest daughter was on my insurance for a year (with Tesco) and they gave her that year in her own right when she took out her own insurance, it was still dear though, I think she pays ?1400 on a 02 Saxo.

As others have said - insurance company's are utter tw@ts

If there are other cars in the household then have a look at Admirals multicar policy. we used for the lads first car and it was 200 cheaper than other quotes and he got his own no claims as well.

I'm paying ?500 now, I've discovered I can insure a Porsche 911 for ?1000. Time for a change of car. Being nearly 40 is brilliant.

Stay as a named driver, with a Company that lets you build no claims as the ND, then after 4 years, get an Individual quote.

As someone has pointed out it has little relevance to your own car's worth - just because your car may be worth less than a grand doesn't mean it is any less likely to cause damage that runs into tens of thousands of pounds (in fact some providers increase the co-efficient on the assumption that drivers of less valuable cars are inherently less arsed about it and drive with less caution on average).

I'm 30 next year, have 4 years NCD and my premium is ?1,500 a year with compulsory excess of ?3,000. Makes me a careful driver I tell thee.

?3000 grand excess what the fuck are you driving

?3k, not ?3m...

I've got a Nissan 350z GT

You seem to be paying way too much for your insurance,

Until Last year I was with Privilege and was paying 525 per year fully comp protected on a 2002 Audi A3 Quattro, Im 28 now and have full NCD

Now I have a traders policy as I buy and sell cars part time and pay ?1050 per year fully comp and that covers me to drive ANY car upto the value of ?7500, excess is ?250 quid

I've got a friend who has a traders policy as he does something similar and he advised me to explore that route. The problem is the car I've got is worth quite a bit more than ?7,500 and is classed as high performance as it's 3.5L and 300bhp. My annual premium is around ?1,200 which I can live with, it's just the thought of the excess that's a bit troubling!

You can pay a slightly higher premium and increase the vehicle maximum value upto whatever amount you want. a mate of mine has his upto 30k

If i wanted to I could have 6 personal cars on my policy and I they would all be individualy covered, even if they all got nicked at once!

Theres no limitations on the car either apart from the Value.

If you go down the Traders policy route, tell them you either trade from home, part time with no premises or you are a part time valeter,

Excess would be nowhere near 3k

Tremendous news! Do I have to prove that I do trade at all?

Nope, you can also add a spouse on for a nominal fee, they too will be able to drive any car fully comp, Comes in handy if you have 2-3 cars in the household, only thing they are funny about is adding male under 25's to the policy

Nice one, happy days!

For anyone rooting around for insurance quotes try Autonet brokers on freephone 0800 080 5295 - and quote reference number 1775. I saved myself and my family fortunes using these.
