Where is the best and worst places to live?

 

Ive been recomended Islington but it was voted the 7th worst place to live in 2007?

i lived there for a few months recently, just during the week for work but i was staying sarrff of the water, between Wandsworth & Clapham Commons. Really liked it, and is a champion night out along the Northcote Road!

Angel/Islington way are liked by the people I know who live there, I'll PM you someone off here who is that neck of woods. I'm NW London and really like it here but again, depends on part of NW

 

Obviously budget will dictate quality of both places and location, but viewing lots of places is important as there is a really big mix. Look at flatshares on Gumtree to get an idea

 

Depending on budget I'd say the following could be considered, Angel, Islington, West Hampstead, Hampstead, Swiss Cottage, St John's Wood ( last few are pricey though. South of the river Clapham is popular with the younger crowd.

Islington is great if you can afford the decent bit, and if you're not bothered about schools then your options are better.

 

However, it's north of the river and SW London is much better.

 

Clapham/Balham if you can afford them, they're on the Northern Line which is A GOOD THING.

 

Colliers Wood if you prefer something with a bit more class.

 

A Thameside penthouse flat in Southwark/Canary Wharf would be even better.

 

And if you've got ?6.5 million to spare, I've seen a few places in Wimbledon Common, each with a swimming pool that I quite liked the look of.

 

Seriously, look at the transport links to where you'll be travelling to before you decide, and do the journey at approx the time of day you'd be doing it. PM me if you want.

Know little about it I'm afraid, but I guess with the new railway it was probably the place to buy about 5 years ago - as you say, good transport links. Ditto Kings Cross before they cleared that up. Don't know anyone who socialises in Stratford. Clapham/Balham/Islington do all have good restaurants & pubs that I've been to.

 

I always wanted to have a flat in St John's Wood when I was young, leave home and move in there. Nowadays, SW19 holds more attractions and the places near the tennis. My plan would be to make a fortune renting out the large drive for car parking, just for the fortnight each year.

I've lived in LOndon for over twenty years. NE London. Middlesex/ Essex borders. Transport links are important (overland as well as underground) but properties are more expensive the closer you get to them. It really depends what your budget is but in my area a 3 bedroon terrace will cost between ?250k and ?320k

Fuck London it's shit, work down there regular can't wait to get back up north on a friday, if

you don't have to don't move there !!!

Like any other city. some bits a shitey poos some bits are great. Don't listen to the myopic tumbthumpers banging on about the north being god's only country. It is what you make of it.

 

If I had the money I'd live in Richmond or West Ken. I don't, I live in the arse end of west sussex as I want a garden and I'm poor. However, I'd still live in South London over North. Cheaper as the tube links are worse, but the overland is just as good. Try Clapham. once you're here you can always move.

Greenwich or Stratford are the suggestions for working in Barking. Don't think of anything the opposite end of the District line as that will take forever, I used to do Kew to Tower Hill and that took an hour. Jubilee Line is pretty fast from Waterloo to out east.

I live in Mile End, which is great, near Victoria Park, a few good pubs, Central, District and Hammersmith and City Lines, near Brick Lane. It'd be easy to get to Barking too.

Defo have a look round Stratford, West Ham, Mile End, etc and see what you think as they will give you a decent commute and decent access to Central for going out, etc.

 

I'm in stratford, not the nicest, but about as well connected transport wise as anywhere. Being in zone 3 and the abundance of new flats seems to offer a bit of extra value accomodation wise than areas a little closer in. The drinking aint great there, but you invariably end up travelling all over the place for a night out so it doesn't bother me.
