Don't think its a coincidence that Robinson looks more comfortable with Taylor in the side

I have said it for months, Taylor deserves to be in the team before Petrov, hr offers cover to Robinson and is a goal threat from set pieces, Petrov can be used as a good last 20 minute sub.

I have been one of the lads biggest critics over the last 15 months but fair play to him

I don't think Petrov's omission from the starting line up in the last few games is a reflection of his performances this year, it's just that Taylor has seized his opportunity with both hands and is playing class. Good to see this kind of competition in the squad and I think it will give players like Mark Davies, Klasnic, Ricketts (up until the last 2 weeks) the belief that if they manage to put a good performance in they'll be given a fair shake. Just a bit of a shame we haven't managed to use some more players in cup games but maybe from Jan we'll have the oportunity - FA Cup and to half the table will do nicely for me. COYWM!

Saw the title of this thread and automatically thought it would be yet another unfounded anti-Matty rant. The lad's always put 100% effort in so far as I can see even when he form dipped when he was ill. I've had grandular fever and wouldn't even have thought about going on a pitch let alone play a EPL match, that was an achievement in itself. Chuffed for the lad and about time the boo boys fecked off.

I am not saying we pick the team based on wages but that if we have invested heavily in a player he needs to be producing the goods.

But what I'm saying is that where a highly paid player is sat on the bench because he's kept of the pitch by a player in better form, it doesn't really matter.

 

Lesser managers, and we had two between Allardyce and Coyle, would play the people they brought in, often to the detriment of the team. That can't be good for the team!

It only becomes a problem when the big eggo of the player on the bench starts to disrupt the team (Man City a good example). With Coyle they all seem content with the fact that if they get the chance and take it then they keep the shirt - non of that rotation rubbish that loses you points

but the squad is stronger with him - see spurs for a good example of this

 

make no mistake, he was first choice left side when he came and was just as much a part of the team that has done well this season as anyone

 

but as is the crack with coyle - you lose your place then you more than likely will have to wait your turn to get it back - seems he's adopting the same approach with steinsson/ricketts

 

if having a big earner, if indeed he is one, like petrov wanting his place back, is what is inspiring these good performances out of Taylor then great - better Petrov than someone like Tope Odebayi competing with him (I know he's on loan but you get my drift)

 

be interesting to see the wage difference between Klasnic and Petrov too, as it works the same way with him - do we need him in the squad on big money if he's not first choice?

As I think you're alluding to ZK, it's a squad game.

We can split hairs over the starting XI, but Coyle does seem to be adopting the old mantra of not changing a winning team. It stood Liverpool in good stead for many a year.

Plus there's probably a lot of truth in the suggestion that Taylor knows Petrov's ready to take his place back, should performances dip.

it seems some are forgetting he started the first 9 games & played his part with goals and assists - the first game he missed was our first home defeat and since he's come off the bench to get a decsive goal v spurs

 

but there's people on here saying we've no room for him on the bench if he's on big money

 

and I doubt (but don't hope) won't be long till taylor takes a dip in form or becomes out of favour
