I'd love it.. But nothing will come of it today...

Yes of course and it would add to the atmosphere once again which was lost by moving to all steater stadiums.

The fans would love it and so would the club but yes it's not going to happen any time soon.

Aye go for it.

But I'll be sitting down. I'm lazy

Without a doubt. Won't happen though!

Even if they decided to bring standing areas back the H&S mandarins would put their two penneth in and decide that only one person per square metre is safe.

100% yes but it will never happen. Probably not the best day to raise this in parliament but fair play for giving it a go.

If they can pack us in like sardines on the trains, which move at a considerably faster pace than a football stadium I see no reason why we can't stand up!

Anyone who's been to the Emirates will tell you how much leg room there is in the away section and is, in my opinion, the way forward. Even with Fat Frank ballooning around.

:D

I'm not overly concerned, but they can raise the issue as often as they like, I'm not sure we will ever see terracing again in the top divisions of this country.

Also, out of interest, could our ground easily be converted to having a terrace? - I presume it's not as simple as just pulling seats out and putting a few barriers up. I don't know if there is an issue with regards to weight and stuff.

I'm all for standing areas at matches then I can sit in my seat without fucking idiots standing up in front of me blocking the view.

Couple of Acro-props underneath should sort it!

The weight shouldn't be an issue.

Don't they do some form of "bounce test" on new grounds to ensure it could cope?

Plus you'd only have the same number of people at the game. Just like Megson's sacking: terracing won't bring the fans back.

Correctomundo........and for that reason IAMOUT

At home I'd be sat but away I'd be stood if possible.

Made me laugh did that in a 'I just heard my Dad swear' kind of way.

:good:

even if standing was brought back how many stadiums do you think would change to having a standing area?

It was only a 10 Minute Rule Motion and it passed with the Second Reading booked in for 11th June 2011 so if anything is ever likely to happen it won't be a long, long while yet. Plus it would have to get through the many stages of the Lords and they're not exactly in touch with the average football fan these days.

Tell em it's full of excited teenage boys, that'll get their attention.

the major barrier to getting fans back is ticket prices, if terracing came with the reduced prices ( as it used to ), it may go a long way towards filling the ground

It only needs a fatality resulting from a crowd surge of people standing in a seated area and standing areas will be back before you know it.

Would love to see the ESL terrace!

If we where to convert ESL what do you think our maximium capacity would be 30,000 - 31,000?

Edited by birch-chorley

Its 28,700 as is, It would at least add 1500 Surely!

It would remain as it is.

H&S directives would mean that each fans would have to have the width of a seat as their own "standing area".

Plus we'd still not fill the ground. Seating is not the reason for empty grounds.

Something that everyone appears to have missed off. Seating appears to stop the thugs from running around and chasing opposing fans around the ground. It's an enabler for the security people and makes it easier to contain fans in small areas.
