Colin Todd

Just heard him on radio. Said he loved his time at Bolton but was very bitter along with Gordon Hargreaves about how they got removed in 1999. Basically he insinuated that Gartside and Bret Warbuton bullied them both out in a bitter coup. He said he had got over it but Hargreaves was still bitter to this day. Hargreaves basically helped push through Reebok etc then Gartside and his powerful allies pushed him out. Too be fair I did not realise all this and just thought at the time like most supporters that we had started shit after the play off defeat and it was time for a change.

Why was Gartside not ruthless with Megson?

There is probably more to it but was interesting listening.

Hargreaves is a complete and utter self-serving cuntstain. And he can try and sue me if he wants.

Can't remember this being mentioned in Todd's autobiography.

Didn't Hargreaves line his own pockets?

There's always Exhibit A: A tender list of one for building the hotel. Hargreaves Contracting

I never said he did, I asked a question :D

Fuck it, Hargreaves lined his own pockets and he's a cunt. Sue me too.

I always thought Garty knew and was party to it, maybe I'm wrong. Well, he knew, anyway. Would be nice to hear his side.

Colin Todd is always welcome back, long as he leaves Andy at home.

Regarding Hargreaves, I heard he bought the land at Middlebrook, flogged it to BWFC for a handsome profit. His company built the Reebok, he then sold his building company (which had been haemorrhaging money) for ?5m.

Of course this is only hearsay and only a rumour

Birse built the Reebok

I thought just the hotel bit was added by Hargreaves. He made a tidy little wad for himself by being on the board of BWFC.

It surprised me that they were so open about him getting the hotel contract because lowest tender or not, it still smacks of nepotism. I would imagine other larger contractors spent a few quid on surveys and presentations without a realistic chance of ever snatching the deal.

How many ex-board members were/are involved with Emerson Holdings and/or Jones Homes?

http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/archive/1999/05/12/Lancashire+Archive/6124254.BWFC_boss_lands_deal_to_build_Reebok_hotel/

Burnden Leisure Chairman David Williams said that the contract had been given to William Hargreaves Ltd, without going to tender, because the company's independent advisers had deemed the quote 'fair'.

"Gordon has a very good knowledge of what has gone on here from the very start, and that gives him an immense knowledge of the groundwork," Mr Williams said.

Which blows my theory that others had spent money on surveys etc.

The fact that they weren't invited to tender is even worse!

I was always of the opinion he was slimier than a prostitutes fanny

and Ive always thought one day the truth will out

not that it proves owt one way or another but rioch speaks very highly of hargreaves

and admittedly rioch jumped before we got the reebok for nowt

Hargreaves was still owed money for the stadium development when he left, part of the settlement fee was the hotel contract.

He didn't deserve the abuse bother he and his family got before he threw the towel in though.

There seems to be a lot of anger in your posts Carlos lad.

Deep breaths....deep breaths...

I've just been for a run, doesn't alter the true though.

Hargreaves will always be remembered for being an arse by the Bolton fans - not as the man who took us to the Reebok.

But without the move to the Reebok we wouldn't be the established Premier League team we are now and have had some of the great times we have had over the last ten years. Can any of you imagine Anelka/Hierro/Campo/Okocha/Djorkaeff etc playing at Burnden? Along with the likes of Athletico Madrid/Sporting Lisbon/Zenit etc.

He may have lined his own pockets - none of us know and will never do - but without the move we wouldn't be where we are now and would almost certainly be in the Championship if not lower.

Rant over.

What also gets me is all the board and co who sold their shares in burnden leisure the day they floated and made a fucking fortune and i include sir nat in that

I seem to recall Mr Gordons of Bolton (ford garage) losing a couple of million in 6 months after buying shares the day Burnden Leisure floated
