  • Maybe they should get PNE instead as they won the league plenty times. Houston Dynamo, founded in 2005. I've got socks older than them. There's only one team in Texas! JR knows the score.

i fancy going to this

If it comes off, I will make every effort to get to this tournament.

Eeee, knew it wouldn't take long.

"You prefer a team that has never won a league championship in more than 100 years of existence, was a regular elevator (1st div-2nd div- 1st div- 2nd div- 1st div) not long ago and considers ending in 6th place the highlight of their league history over a team that used to be one of the best teams in Europe?

This is not the Ajax of the 90s, but it is still a club that won 4 Champions League, 29 league championships, and 18 Dutch Cup championships.

Bolton, on the other hand, has 3 FA cups in the 20s and one in the 50s to show for more than 100 years of history, not to mention countless seasons fighting to avoid relegation.

This has been one of their best years and they are 20 points away from the leader of the EPL, I would go to see Stu, but for me, Bolton is the big meh."

The fans of Houston will be able to see how Holden has turned into a superstar whilst with us :yahoo:

Give it a year or so and he'll be known as the American Kaka!!

Eeee, knew it wouldn't take long.

To be fair I can sort of see his point, I don't see that BWFC would be an especially interesting game for the home fans, unless of course Holden is playing, or if we happen to be the reighing FA Cup champions. The thing with Americans is they want to always see "the best" and seeing the likes of Bolton won't really get their juices flowing I wouldn't have thought. Not that I give a toss what they think to be honest.

Bolton are in the EPL though, the Eredivisie is incomparable. There has sort of been an oligopoly regarding the top flight of English football for at least 30 years. Would Ajax have had their history if they had Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc., especially their recent history '90's'? It's debateable. It's irrelevant anyway, the draw is Stu Holden, not BWFC.

To be fair, we shouldn't be telling anyone that they should or shouldn't be excited about playing us - it's up to them isn't it?

Anyway, I suggest an old school WW board invasion; it's been far, far too long :yahoo:

That's the most poignant thing about it. An ignorant Yank following a 6 year old team questioning the history of a club over 130 years old. You would think they would be grateful for anyone to come in any topflight really.

I'll give it a go later :good:

Do you think they'll "get it" though? They're an odd breed.

I've sorted my fights out so I will be back in Houston for this, so if or anyone else is going to make it across let me know I can meet up and show you around.

May be you should read the rest of the posts, and not cherry pick one to get a reaction :nea:

Don't know, we'll see - just registered, so once the moderators activate it I'll make sure they know WW exists. Bang goes the "special relationship"

I don't think you'll find too many Dynamo supporters excited merely because Bolton is playing. The excitement will be because of Holden returning to play his former club. This is after all a friendly and will probably be advertised as Stu Holden and Bolton Wanderers.

As for some of the other commentary about "ignorant Yanks" - you'll find that lot of Dynamo supporters also follow teams in EPL or other Euro leagues too. The last MLS Allstar game between Manchester United and the MLS Allstars drew over 70,000 in Houston last year. We're not as unsophisticated about the game as some in the old country would think.

Here's a tee shirt I designed for USA-England game last year

I bet you looked "special" in that. Diddles, is this one of your cousins?

I look special in everything I wear old son.

By the way - this is not a done deal yet, the Dynamo sent the contract over to Bolton last week. If it does get arranged, you'll just love our July and August weather.

There's a certain irony there when you get to that f?cking tee shirt

Before you reach for your six shooter, pal - I am pro American. Had many happy times over there.
