Sorry, I didn't consider ''Do they still fiddle with kids?'' as a serious question / allegation.

It didn't touch a nerve, it just made me think he was a w@anker.

I'd say it was pretty serious.

  • My rather simplistic view is this:   Lennon regularly acts the cunt and rightly derided for it. And that's where it should end.   The death threats, live bullets etc is all completely out of order

  • You don't seem too bright, sonny.   I was brought up by a very wise man (conicidentally of Scottish/Irish descent)who always used to say to me 'Never judge a bloke by his religion or the colour of h

  • Here's my take on it.   Lennon is a ballbag of the highest order but to send someone a bomb is cowardly and below contempt.     ok Bolty and Col, Peebles and all the rest of the Rangers fans on h

You're entitled to hate whoever you like, if that's the way you choose to be but in this instance it has gone way beyond that. These attacks and the hate campaign against Lenny cannot be considered anything other than such.

Another poster on here mentioned something about the attacker the other night not being a rankers fan, again that is missing the point. This kind of bigotry is a problem throughout scotland and despite what our media tells us, it's is not entirely tied to the ''old firm''.

What the Scottish govt are guilty of however, is not tackling anti-catholic bigotry at it's roots way before now and by not doing this they have created a landscape where these kind of sectarian hate campaigns can flourish and be swept under the carpet.

Why use the words "anti-catholic"? Why not just say ".......is not tackling bigotry"? Is that because it would (rightly) infer that Celtic have their share of idiots too?

Not over kids I hope. :nea:

Just what I was thinking, there is deep rooted bigotry on both sides.

I was hoping that would get a reaction. Yes there are bigots on 'both sides' but historically and still to this day, Scotland in parts has been a very hostile place for the catholic minority, those of Irish decent in particular. It simply isn't a case of 'both as bad as each other'. This season's hate campaign against the catholic footballers, a manager and some fans has proven this.

In some parts of Scotland, it was impossible for catholics to get jobs in certain establishments such as banks upto the 1960's and still to this day the attitudes which breed this kind of hate are still reflected by a shocking amount of the public. Rangers as a club wouldn't employ a catholic to even cut the grass until the late 80's. Even in recent years there has been public outcry when a player blessed himself on the pitch at ibrox (a place which stopped selling Benedictine at it's bar when the new pope was announced). However in contrast, some of Celtic's greatest legends since the club's creation have been protestant, religion really isn't an issue for the club or 99% of it's fans.

Institutions like the orange order have huge memberships in Scotland and like to display their triumphalism on the streets in huge numbers at any given opportunity and let's face it, organisations do not get anymore anti-catholic than the orange order. There is an endless list of these examples in Sottish society and I am well aware that there are bad folk on the 'other side' too but it is nowhere near this scale, it's barely comparable... Although i am quite open to being proven wrong!

Sectarianism in Scotland has become a catch-all phrase used by the media who are scared to address the real issue in a country which would rather keep it's real issue well and truly under wraps.

Neither club has any moral high ground over the other, it's quite simple.

No matter how much of a twat Neil Lennon is, he doesn't deserve the death threats, bullets ,etc

COYM58, I'm not disagreeing with what you say, but remember that Celtic too have history. Doing nothing to prevent collections in their ground where the proceeds went towards an organisation that actively murders/murdered BRITISH folk is also abhorrent.

What pisses me off most about both of the teams is that at any old firm match, you only see the Irish flag and the Union flag. Not a Scottish flag in sight.

Wouldn't it be nice if, just for once, they could all be Scottish.

I was hoping that would get a reaction. Yes there are bigots on 'both sides' but historically and still to this day, Scotland in parts has been a very hostile place for the catholic minority, those of Irish decent in particular.

Try living in Coatbridge where protestants are in the minority. Convenient that you forget that Republicans have their walks too!!

As for the player who blessed himself (Artur Boruc), again you forget that he faced the Rangers fans whilst crossing himself in order to get a reaction!

Take off your green tinted spectacles, see that it takes two to tango and join the rest of us in 2011

Just to remind you of 'the best fans in the world'

I've been up in Glasgow, and, being a Catholic of irish descent with a Bolton (english) accent couldnt fucking win wherever i went  there are idiots on both and definitley a anti catholic sentiment in certain sections, that, in fairness, maybe I noticed more being catholic, I don't know, but, If lennon is targetted just because he is an irish Catholic, then why did the same abuse not get given to Martin O'Neill and Liam Brady, I would think especially Brady with him being from Dublin, the capital of the Republic, the very thing they despise?

could it be these two conducted themselves differently? It's not like Lennon is the first irish man or catholic to manage Celtic, so it's either the fact he mentioned a united ireland team that has snowballed along with his reactions to the abuse, or they simply just dont like him. I dont think he's getting the abuse simply because he is an irish catholic, as others would've had the same.

I am well aware that republicans have walks too, I don't recall seeing any sectarian ones though (although i guess we may have a difference in opinion when defining sectarian).

Tut tut Boruc, he has blessed himself like that in every ground he has played in and it's not usually a problem, why would it be? Former rankers players from catholic countries have spoke out about being 'encouraged' not to bless themselves when coming out onto the pitch so as not to cause offence... Hideous!

I have admitted that there are problems on 'both sides' but my point is that it is nowhere near the same scale, or is it? You tell me!

I am well and truly in 2011, a time where the celtic staff and fans have bullets and bombs sent to them by bigots such as Neil Mckenzie and Tevor Muirhead and Bigots like John Wilson attack football managers pitchside. 2011 sure is great eh!

Discalimer - All names are should have 'allegedly' bofore them...

We all live in the same world, breath the same air, have feelins. Get a grip otherwise it will be like the Gaza strip.

Give them independance and walk away.

.. or just re-build the wall.

I take onboard what you are saying but what about Nial McGinn, Paddy McCourt, Paul McBride and Trisha Godman who all received boms or bullets this year too!?

A couple of points then I'll consider putting you on 'ignore' before your inevitable demise.

1) Do you have anything else to contribute to this forum other than your pro Republican Green Brigade propaganda? Any other points of interest/humorous contributions? No? Thought not.

2) I thought you were just generally a shiyte speller but 'rankers' for Rangers is too often to be a typo. Asinine and worthy of kindergarten.

3) I can tell by your infantile and brainwashed views that you are a young un. Me living in Perth and bringing up my kids under a British (& Australian) Queen is irrelevant because I'll wager that I have still lived in Bolton longer than you (and my roots there go back for centuries).

4) You are wanderer123/Bolton Tim. No point denying it. Writing style/poor command of the English language/brainwashed parrot fashion dogma.

Oh shit, i am being bullied on the internet by someone who comments on people's 'command of the english language' on a football forum.

You live on the other side of the world. You are so far detached from what is going on in Scotland that your opinion is utterly worthless. I'm sure you feel you are kept well upto date by the other laptop loyal but in reality you do not have the foggiest. Cheerio then, please feel free to put me on 'ignore'.

No need to put you on ignore. You won't last.

GSTQ.

Mate, no-one's bullying you. You're pretending to put across an unbiased argument, whilst ignoring valide points that people are making and ignoring the part that Celtic and its following have played in the troubles over the years.

It's going to be very hard for you to find much support on a British forum for a club that has the kind of anti-British history that that Celtic has.

Go on then I'll bite - where do you stay? I dare you to say south of the border

Defend this too. Played out by a non-sectarian group of supporters

The bullied part was tongue in cheek and besides, I am sure I would remain quite unaffected by any of the nonsense that you choose to spout so warm up all you like!

My scottish alliance goes to Rangers and definatley not Celtic but I am Catholic...what does that make me? Nice answers please :D
