I use it - you can make Internet calls for free. I use the web-cam to talk to my brother who lives away, it's great

Not with my brother !!! but the web-cam comes in handy at other times

I use Skype very good for expensive overseas calls.

we use it at work to speak to our suppliers in the Far East as it's free of charge. It's a great service

Forget Skype you need ooVoo, free video calls.

just for the record this is a serours post just got back from seattle were my mum is dieing of cancer a week or two at most both my sisters talker to her on something called facetime i would like to do the same i asume skype is the same

Bad News is that LW, I'm sorry to hear it.

 

Basically both you and the person you want to speak/video talk to need to both have skype installed. It's very easy to use and pretty much "idiot proof" - even Mrs CWP managed to use it without help from anybody else, and she's a proper technophobe!

LW, really sorry to hear about your mother, it's about the hardest thing in life that you're going through just now. Try to keep your chin up mate.
