Next time you "head on over to the lake and jump in" can you tie a sack full of house bricks around your waist?

Why you wasn't planning on running in it was you.

  • Okay, taking that into account...   Congratulations - Your average speed is now comparable to that of a King Penguin on land.

Just to cheer you up, your actual average speed was 3.8 mph.

The average walking speed of a grown man is 3.5 mph.

You've got to ask yourself if it was worth the effort really.

I do a lot of bike riding, got an app for the iPhone called 'CycleMeter', it's pretty good. Can change the activity walking, running, etc then track progress online or via the app.. Also use another site called DailyMile whereby you can map your runs. Worth a look and gives you that bit more motivation!

If you're serious about starting running properly you have to build up slowly. Try running for 1 minute then walk (recover) for a minute. Do this 15 times. Do that 3 to 4 times in the first week. The next week run for 1min 15 seconds and walk (recover) for 45 seconds. Repeat as week one.

From then on you increase the running and reduce the recovery time until you can run for 30 mins without stopping. Don't worry about the speed yet, that will come. Just get used to continuous motion and don't try to be Roger Bannister.

Forget what other people on here are saying. You're already doing what 90% of the population never will. Good luck mate.

Never mind the time or the people knocking your efforts, it is a start mate!

Next time if you are flat on your back for 9 minutes, it's an improvement.

And even if you don't improve, it's still better than me, sitting on my fat arse telling you what to do!

whats best way of warming down?

light jog then walk it out, stretch the worked muscles the walk again then a final stretch, worst thing that can be done is to sit or lie straight down

Agreed. Early stages a 5 minute brisk(ish) walk will do followed by a few simple calf and quad stretches. Check out runners world for a simple 5 minute routine.

hence my mondays tuesdays and weds are fooked after footy and cricket at weekends and i cant walk

if you really wanna cool down, then i suggest an ice bath.

i do one a week and it is not nice

A good wank usually gives me a warm down... or is that a warm up?

either way it's better than fuckin running.

Just got up to go for another run

Yeh, not happening

I do just under 3 miles every morning give or take the hangover morning, been doing it for nearly 3 years now when I started it was horrible coughing and breathing like a 70 year old smoker wanting to die it's not nice but once you get through that pain barrier and do it constantly you'll become addicted I hate it if I can't go for a run in the morning

whats best way of warming down?

get yourself behind a 14" pizza

the main thing is there.. (being arsed)..

I wonder sometimes how larger blokes haven't done anything about their weight..

then I look in the mirror and realise

I'm running on the wii. I dare not go out in public just yet!

P.S. The morning walk up Rivi with the dog is 1 mile and takes me 15/20, so Garpy, it's bad!

It will be 20 minutes. You won't be walking at 4 miles an hour with your dog
