Next time you "head on over to the lake and jump in" can you tie a sack full of house bricks around your waist?

  • Dodgywheel
    Dodgywheel

Why you wasn't planning on running in it was you.

  • Okay, taking that into account...   Congratulations - Your average speed is now comparable to that of a King Penguin on land.

The average walking speed is 3.5 mph. Surely a brisk walk can be therefore be 4 mph can it not?

Oh, it's brisk in the morning I can tell you. Poor dog hardly gets a sniff of anything. Why she can't have a shit in her own garden though, I don't know. Little brat!

I shall time it properly

I run about 30 minutes 4 days a week, not accounting the walks/running with my dog.

On a nice sunny day, I sometimes head on over to the lake, jump in, get out, run up the small hill, jump in, get out, my dog follows this, it's fun and a good way to mix things up, I don't mind getting wet because when you're exercising you sweat, being wet makes it feel like you're exercising Turbo style.

Ready when you are!

Might be worth having a look at www.parkrun.com Free 5k runs. Quite a good setup. My missus does 'em.

I used to think sub 10 minutes for each mile was acceptable and its faster than walking.

At a pinnacle the other year I was doing 5 miles in 37 minutes.

I've not got anywhere near that for a while..... in fact I've not run 5 miles in a long, long time.

Did 2 miles in about 20 mins on Sunday.

keep it up Garp

2 tips that make all the difference

1) get proper running shoes

2) stretch before and after (google some routines)

then

enter a 5/10k to have a target - doesn't have to be a massive sponsored event, there'll be loads every weekend in parks and stuff in the area

doing the great north run in 1:59:57 was the highlight of my running career

gone downhill since, thought I was going to die running 50m up a slight incline for the bus this morning

ok, not die, but i was on the verge of passing out

keep it up Garp

was gonna start a thread but seeing as you mention it

I currently have some nike pegasus. alright but for the amount of running I do (10-12 miles/week max, mainly treadmill, some road) still get aches

heard asics nimbus are pretty good from shop bloke who did my gait analysis. i've got a neutral running style.

any recommendations?

any recommendations?

if you want a proper pair, go to a proper running shop where they will watch you run and recommend based on whether you over-pronate or under-pronate

when I went I was soem freak occurence and the guy couldn't work out what was going on

neither could 3 other members of staff

so I'm not great for personal recommendations

Booked myself on the Blackpool half marathon! Has anyone done or is going to do this run it's on 4th of September. Going to start training after been on a stag donin early July!!!

And then buy them off the internet for half the price.

My favourite ever pair of running shoes was the Asics DS Trainer 13. Since they wore out Ive been struggling with shin problem after shin problem. Haven't ran in about 3 months now so hoping its all cleared up and I'm gonna start and get fit again. Although for a fair few pounds to shift first.

got some of thse - Niki Moto 8s

just went JD and picked out the ones that felt comfiest, presume they are decent?

I probably won't enter any runs, it bores me to death but have to do it as like you I was out of breath for 5 minutes after walking to the tube.

I'l tell you what does baffle me though, although I hadn't been for a run in donkeys years, I do go swimming 2/3 times a week and do 100 lenghs a time no problem.

running is a completley different story

Tobutt Sports in Astley Bridge is best in Bolton for sorting running shoes, they know their stuff.

I get Brooks Adreneline, most popular shoe in the US they tell me

different muscles and all that.

anyway, why run, if you hate running?

i hate running, so i just play footy, go biking and play squash instead.

no point in doing it if you dont enjoy it. above everything, it needs to be fun imo.

I have a neutral gait too. I use Gel Cumulus. Get on t'internet.

I think they're on version 13 now but if you go for slightly earlier models you can pick them up for ?50 - ?60. I've used sports shoes direct before.

Ran this a couple of years back, best thing about it is that the course is so flat, was happy with my time of 1 hour 51 mins. one bit of advice i would give is to eat properly before the race , i find eating a bowl of porridge an hour before running really fuels your body.
