jazza Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 On more 4 now 1st episode Missed 1st half hour but I'm not convinced this can work at all anyway! i found it at the same time as you .... I am not getting it so far
jules_darby Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 It's alreet Seriously, not bad at all Just not as funny as the British one Jazza wouldn't understand as Frank Gallagher typesvare par for the course in fried mars bar land

The thing that sets British Shameless up are the common accents.. america just doesn't have that. There are Southern drawls and New York accents but basibcally it is a bland language. Britain is diverse when it comes to accents. I used yto know what part of Dumfries someone was from when I grew up... it is that localised.
jules_darby Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Jazza The point that you missed is, shameless is set close to Bolton. But Frank's behaviour is seen as wrong. My point is that in jockland, that'd be normal And regarding accents, you are dead wrong; yanks can tell accents from Different cities in the same state; much like we can cities in our country The only thing is, you can't

I could be wrong though As for it being the norm in "jockland"... I've been to Delacey Drive and that place makes most of Scotland look like St Tropez Edited June 23, 2011 by jazza
jules_darby Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Jazza I'm from Manchester lad I'm sat 5 minutes from Hulme It was a cheap gag Oh and when I was in California a month ago, folk I met could tell someone from LA, San Fran, San Diego etc We even had s conversation about it, as I said they sounded the same, to which I was told we all sound the same too. As well as Aussies apparently Everyone thinks they're individual and special; such is the human psyche Maybe they were just special

jazza Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Anyway, accepting Jules's view that accent is different from class to class and area to area in the states it still doesn't work in Britain, at least not for me, because we can't tell the fuckin difference.
jules_darby Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 No word of a lie, in 3 wks I was asked was I an Aussie over 10 times Aussies must just be known as devilishly handsome in the States
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I will admit I was asked if I was an Aussie on more than one occassion Every bugger here in Reno asks me if I'm Australian
pato Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I have been told I don't sound like a manc. Was quite happy about that but I can put the Shameless accent on no problems just that t's not me.
bolty58 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 No word of a lie, in 3 wks I was asked was I an Aussie over 10 times Aussies must just be known as devilishly handsome in the States Never happened to me
pato Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 watched it and it was almost scene for scene a remake of the Uk version. Expect Phoenix nights to be remade in Detroit
Crawley Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Every bugger here in Reno asks me if I'm Australian We have a new French lad started at work and he asked someone if I was Scottish! The shame.
HomerJay Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 watched it and it was almost scene for scene a remake of the Uk version. That's the problem I guess, I couldn't help but compare every last detail. The whole thing is a bad idea IMO
Snow_white Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 RE; Accents, isn't it the point that countries like the US and Australia are fairly new countries where we have had thousands of years of living in the same small area and so time to build up all our idiosyncrasies and quaint dialects.
jules_darby Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 That's the problem I guess, I couldn't help but compare every last detail. The whole thing is a bad idea IMO But it's natural to do that initially Doesn't mean it's no kop Much like the US office, once the characters grow organically in their own way I'm sure you'll stop doing that
Big_Sharps Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 We have a new French lad started at work and he asked someone if I was Scottish! The shame. Does he dislike Arabs and grab his crotch at teenage girls?

John Bishop was on the tv - in spite of living here for 7 years a) she couldnt understand him and b.) her guess was he was Scottish The funny thing is though, an advert comes on for Sky Broadband, the one where the stunner sat on top of mattresses "stop putting vegetables under my bedding". Straight away, she says she's Slovakian. She was right too. Just sounded totally generic East European to me. Edited June 24, 2011 by jayjayoghani

Bulldozed, re-built & re-named.
Crawley Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Does he dislike Arabs and grab his crotch at teenage girls? No but he wears half mast jeans, and a rucksack over both shoulders.
